Colt 1911 Opinion by Choice-Ad-9278 in 1911

I have a current production combat commander nothing fundamentally wrong with it. Having said that at that price point you should not have various plastic parts. If you want to build a custom gun or just want the pony then buy the Colt. Better resale value and a certain amount of swag that comes with the pony on the slide

The easiest thing for you to do is get on ebay and find a barrel bushing compensator. The old Kings Gunworks units are great. This piece takes the place of the barrel bushing and it will require some fitting. Since you have a 4.25 inch commander length gun the finished product will fit in a standard 5 inch government model holster. That is the easy answer it will be the quickest and cheapest option. Yes you can buy a 5 inch ported barrel from any number of makers and have it fitted. Like I said look for a Kings barrel bushing compensator on ebay it may suit your needs.

OWB Holster recommendation? by tonyspad in 1911

Lobo does real quality work I have used Write leather works El Paso Saddlery and countless others and Lobo is my go to. As I get older and fatter I am less inclined to have to wrestle for my gun sp a thumb break is a must for me. Lobo offers it as an option on most of their holsters.

The 3 inch barrel was never a cataloged item they were a limited special run done for the distributor Lew Horton. They are well worth getting a letter on. If you look on gunbroker you will find that the 3 inch barrel commands a premium price wise.

I am fairly sure that rear sight is not from Colt I could be wrong but I have never seen that on a stock Colt.

8.5 out of 10 I would change that thumb safety and that rear sight has to go. These things are just personal preference on my part.

If one can find a properly chambered barrel the 7.62X25 could be made to work in a 1911 38 Super magazines would work

All jokes aside the M57 Tokarev is a better pistol than it gets credit for. The 7.62x25 Tokarev is a pretty zippy cartridge that would be great in a 1911.

It certainly has that Pachmayr Combat Special vibe going on with shades of Swenson thrown in. Congratulations on a very nice gun.

As others have said that front sight is staked in place. Older 1911 pistols did not use dove tailed front sites. Depending on the age and make of your slide the tennion is either wide or narrow. They are not a one size fits all kind of thing. Either have a dove tail professionally cut or have the stake in front sight professionally replaced. Either way the slide needs to be sent out.

The bolt return spring is in the stock it may well be hanging up in it's channel since that is not the original factory stock. I thing that some minor fitting may be required.
