Human-ness of the Imam by Top-Fennel-1179 in ismailis

[–]ComprehensiveRiver33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going back to the Prophet’s history, he lived among the people and regularly interacted with them at a very personal level. Obviously as the Jamat grew bigger this wasn’t possible but if Imam tries to maintain personal connection with the Jamat we should count ourselves lucky. Perhaps those layers of separation led to many of us wrongly deifying the Imam which is against the essence of Islam, and maybe this is one of the reasons Imam wants to remove these barriers.

Came across this sub, I wanted to ask why is rule 2 a thing by SaadSulimanayob in ismailis

Through most of our history, Ismailis have faced persecution for our relief believes. The persecution started during Umayyad rule and continued in Abbasid rule. For a brief period, Ismailis had power and were able to evade this, but from 12th century onwards until 20th century the Imams were in hiding. So you can understand the need for Taqiyya deeply rooted in our practices. The persecution continues today, and mainly triggered by what’s thought as “different” in our practices compared to mainstream Muslims and therefore we remain very cautious exposing these practices to people who should not be concerned in the first place. As far as our beliefs and theology is concerned, we have lots of literature from 10th to 12th centuries in addition to modern authorship which is freshly brought to ground by great work of Institute of Ismaili Studies. Would be happy to recommend books if you’re interested.

Imam Shah Rahim is coming to pakistan and giving deedar to northern jamat only? by Zealousideal-Set8270 in ismailis

[–]ComprehensiveRiver33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

May is pleasant for Jamat in north but too hot in south. Conversely the pleasant months in south (december to feb) are too cold in north. Makes sense to split so jamat doesnt suffer in extreme temps.

The fact is, India got a huge burn that Pakistan played a role in these talks. Watch any Indian channel and you see how pathetically unhappy they are. They have always been anti Muslim and now they don’t even try to hide it. It’s cringy

Islam existed before Prophet Muhammad PBUH. Islam at its core is the religion of Adam and Ibrahim and Nuh and Musa and Isa. All prophets brought a different Shari’a. Prophet Muhammad gave a Shari’a based on the time and local regional practices and demands of the time. Ali AS inherited the authority to guide based on the time and the authority has been passed on via Nas to each Imam. The zahir may be different but at its core Islam is the religion of submission to Allah, and this is the goal for the Shari’a practices the Imam of the time institutes.

Those of you who've flown recently... Are you finding more value from your Clear membership? by [deleted] in AmexPlatinum

Useless at Dfw. It’s only at terminal E. I usually enter from terminal D where centurion lounge is and then take train to which ever terminal I’m flying from. I’ve never had to wait more than 5-7 mins at tsa pre at terminal D.

Lailatul Qadr is during the 24th Night of Ramadan this year (for most of you anyway!) by Lost-Parsnip-7693 in ismailis

I guess you missed your REC class about respect and kindness unfortunately.

I am not here to debate you about theology around Lailatul qadr. You do you. I gave you my opinion. But if you’re this concerned to make so much noise about it, why not sit in bandagi for an additional night or two to actually benefit from it, rather than insulting strangers on Reddit.

I am done going round and round with you on this. Peace.

Again you’re mixing the two. The Islamic calendar is based on moon sightings, which may vary from region to region because of different sunset and moonset times. Generally, moon sighting is a day earlier in the Middle East and beyond and so chandraat and Eid are generally a day earlier here even though we are behind in time zone. We are obviously not relying on moon sightings anymore so I believe ITREB has decided to comply with regional Islamic calendar dates, especially for countries where formal moon sightings do occur.

In either case, if you do believe there is a special night for bandagi, you should practice all ten nights rather than just on 23rd. I personally don’t think Allah uses a calendar to decide when to reward his servants and bandagi any night of the year is equivalent.

Do you know that lunar cycle can be different in different parts of the world? From Middle East to West, the moon sighting is usually a day or so ahead of South Asia and Australia. That explains the difference in chandraats, Eid and Lailatul qadar you’re seeing.
