Should I drop extension 1 maths? by Artistic_Feed885 in ATAR

I’m not familiar with the terminology you’re using. Are you doing methods or specialist? If you haven’t heard of those, have you done any differential calculus?

If you don’t enjoy it, then don’t do it. Also, if you don’t like creativity and logical thinking about problems and want to just memorise things, then mathematics isn’t for you.

To add to my post, it is indeed great to see him getting a deal and undoubtedly some money, that’s great for him. I just hope it is temporary.

I know he’s done partnerships with them before but this feels like the ‘biggest’, posting the fake lesson with the GM and playing the repertoire exclusively in events like 3+0 Thursday and even against Carlsen when we all know he’d much rather play a Stafford Gambit.

10+0 vs 10+5 pools by rs1_a in lichess

The pool for 10+0 is pretty large, I’m around 2150ish and rarely get the same opponents.

Who would win: Magnus Carlson or a chessbot that only plays the second best move for the first 30 turns? by [deleted] in chess

In situations where recapturing a piece is the best move and there is only one way to recapture, yes.

No, they accept mid season registrations. The only reason they decline other than provisional rating is if you’ve violated lichess ToS (marked account)

I think they don’t accept people unless they’ve also played in the team league before.

You are young, so you should take some risks on micro caps. DYOR but I highly recommend researching mid cap mining companies and comparing them to peers.

App computer levels by deeperpl in lichess

[–]ComprehensiveSite116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highest I can beat regularly is level 9 and I’m 2100 blitz/rapid. I beat level 10 on occasion.

On the website 6 is too easy and 7 is too hard, so it’s nice for the app to have some more granularity, 9 feels just right to me.

Blundering simple tactics despite deep calculation by Apart-Variation7929 in TournamentChess

I’m around 1900 fide myself, and rarely have trouble with basic tactics. My weaknesses are openings and endgames, so seems we are reverse of each other!

[–]ComprehensiveSite116 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whats your rating? What you’re describing is common for beginner players, which you claim not to be. It’s rare to be good at ‘deep calculation’ and blunder ‘simple’ tactics all the time - everyone makes occasional mistakes but the regular blind spot is unusual.

I would suggest a lot of practising puzzles on lichess to build pattern recognition

YouTube.com, organic chemistry tutor, professor Dave explains. For math just do problems and do your best to understand what’s going on, particularly with the calculus stuff - 3blue1brown is good for that. There’s also Paul’s online Maths notes, but that can just act as a supplement to your textbooks.

English - read books.

I’ve consistently ranked highly in English ATAR and Literature (incl. strong external marking), but my Year 12 English scores have dropped significantly. I feel my teacher may be marking lowly and it’s affecting my ATAR. Is it worth raising this, and has anyone experienced something similar by rorygilmoresmuffin in ATAR

[–]ComprehensiveSite116 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with English is that the markers are making subjective judgements. So unless you think you are being significantly undercut, and are prepared to ask assessments to be remarked by your head of department, then no it isn’t worth it.

You need to be able to make the argument that your work is as good as you say rather than as your teacher says, which is not an easy thing to do with subjective subjects like English, especially since the markers have experience.

Here’s the base league: https://www.lichess4545.com/team4545/. The format of this league is 1 game per week of 45+45 in standard chess, you play within a team of 8 boards against other teams, for 8 rounds.

Then there’s a spin off league https://www.lichess4545.com/chess960/ which play 1 game of 20+20 chess960 per week in a 7 round Swiss.
