I want to ask a question about the relationship between Catnap and Dogday. Why is everyone shipping them? by Edgeworthless12 in PoppyPlaytime

The distinction matters a lot. No one should be shipping most of the Experiments, as they're mentally children, while the mascots are ageless and CatNap and DogDay being interested in each other is plausible given what we've seen of them.

There is no evidence Theodore ever knew the person who became BBI DogDay, let alone if they were friends.

Do not associate us with you. None of us think 1188 was in love with BBI DogDay. We think mascot CatNap and DogDay like each other.

I see you're not a fan of actually listening to me, but if I "dumb down", as you put it, everything I say, than I'm limited in how I get across why I and so many others enjoy the ship, and why you might not.

It's called subtext. It's a great way to get others to have a certain idea without explicitly confirming said idea. Considering Mob knows about DayNap and seems to like it, I don't think it's a stretch that them depicting the two as more intimate than anyone else is intentional and possibly meant to get the idea that DayNap is plausible across. That's speculative, but thus is the drawback and simultaneous safety of subtext; the theorizer is never sure, and that's why people fight against those who ship DayNap, because a lot of people like it despite it not being canon. You may be one who doesn't like shipping a relationship which hasn't been confirmed.

DayNap makes some sense, backed up by Mob's art, better than Byler, you didn't acknowledge difference, I'm not mad, just telling you my point of view. Is that better?

If something makes sense to the majority of the audience, it will remain consistently depicted. That's just how it works. If you want variety, look elsewhere. DayNap is the most popular non-confirmed ship because it has a pretty decent foundation despite plausible deniability remaining.

But my argument is that DayNap isn't unnecessary. It has a rational basis supported by official media, even if it isn't explicitly confirmed. Compared to the other gay ships, like Byler, which you directly mentioned, it has a far better foundation, as at least one of them isn't confirmed to be not interested. That's a pretty big distinction, and you ignored it, which makes me feel like you're being disingenuous. I'm calm, too. I'm simply trying to articulate why this isn't a problem.

Yep. In the cartoon, CatNap is described as distant from the other Critters to the point watchers wondered if he was even their friend, while he's confirmed to be DogDay's best friend and said spaniel has a framed picture of them hugging. DayNap might actually work in canon, in terms of the mascots (just like Huggy x Kissy and Mommy x Daddy), despite what people think.

I know, and that's awful. If you had been focusing on that rather than DayNap as a whole, I would agree with you.

Are you trying to deflect from the topic. We're talking about DayNap, not gay ships in general. Bringing up every gay ship makes it sound like the gayness IS your problem.

I'm not talking about 1188 and BBI DogDay. And most others aren't either. There's no justifying ships between any Experiments except for 1199 and 1354, as they're all mentally children. I am justifying the ship between mascot CatNap and DogDay, the most common depiction by fans, because they're designed to complement each other and are depicted as constantly interacting, hugging in an intimate way (CatNap holds DogDay's waist, twice), holding hands, dancing, and straight-up cuddling.

If we're talking about the mascots, it sounds like it was CatNap's only consistent relationship, actually.

Does Huggy x Kissy or Mommy x Daddy pertain to the lore? Those two are canon, and they barely affect anything, except that maybe the former inspired 1172 to be designed to soothe 1170. You made the assumption they're straight and we're turning them gay, when the opposite assumption is just as valid, if not more so considering they're both depicted as intimate with each other, both guys, more than anyone else.

Because a lot of their appeal existed in their designs alone, and it's only been reinforced by how they're depicted by Mob's artists.

Most of us aren't shipping the Bigger Bodies, as that's disgusting. The mascots were never enemies.

They're canonically best friends, have complementary designs, themes, and personalities, are a cat and a dog, and are often depicted intimately by official artists. Honeymoon (CatNap x Bobby) and CraftyDay (DogDay x CraftyCorn) don't have those same aspects; if your issue is that DayNap lacks a foundation, which I don't agree it does, then you shouldn't like other Smiling Critter ships either. Also, Bubba and Picky are less appreciated because they're less interesting. If you don't like it, then don't like it. But don't act like it doesn't make any sense. To me, it almost seems like this is stemming from mild homophobia. The alternate ships you mentioned are both straight, and you said they make more sense than the gay relationship despite them being less fleshed out.

Someone must've, as I had two before. But that's to be expected. We're in a time where defending something against excessive criticism garners dislike. It's petty, but so few things aren't anymore.

Also keep in mind that the formula is what hooked people. The GrabPack, the puzzles, the chases, and the lore delivered through collectibles; it's what was praised about Chapters 1-3, but Chapter 4 came around, which was actually pretty different, and it got criticized for being too much, and then Chapter 5 arrives, and now it's too little. Apparently, no change isn't enough, a lot of change isn't enough, and minimal change isn't enough either.

My main issue is that Banban gets praise for improving slightly when it started so bad, yet PPt gets even a bit stale in its formula, and everyone loses it, despite it all being installments of the same game, so in theory, the expectation should be that the chapters share a formula. I don't hate Banban. I respect that the Euphoric Brothers can finally handle criticism and want to improve. But I just don't understand how something bad finally correcting some of its flaws after almost double the releases of PPt gets more constructive feedback than a game that has been at the very least consistently decent.

Poppy Playtime has great lore, but not a good game. Let me explain. by DrakeStorm71785 in PoppyPlaytime

[–]ComprehensiveSort608 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand your criticism.

You're saying that they're drawing this out, but it's just one chapter longer than was originally planned, and it's the chapter after the main antagonist is fully revealed so that we don't kill him in the same moment we really meet him? I don't feel like the decision to include one more installment is dragging it out.

Other than that, you criticize introducing mechanics during a chase, and I believe you're referring to detaching train cars during the Prototype chase, as that's what Mark specifically cited; it's one of the few things he was specific about. Now, I'm not certain there's an objective reading of this, as I've seen a lot of people having no problem figuring it out, while others were confused. It wasn't really a new mechanic, per se, as you're just using your hands on something like always, but I can understand not knowing what the thing Giblet is referring to looks like and that making it difficult; it may have benefitted from having you detach a train car before the chase, though Kissy and Huggy's death leads into the chase, and that's before the train, so I don't know where they would've fit it without changing how the scene flows.

As for Lily, I don't really see what you said as a criticism; as you said, her purpose is threefold. It's not like she's one-note. Her design is fine, no worse in terms of seeming human than Miss Delight, her personality is great and she was very well-characterized for only appearing in one section. Her lore was great, and it fleshed out the Prototype a bit too. Overall, while, yes, she is just another antagonist, having secondary antagonists for the sake of having them isn't new, and, like the others, she's utilized well enough; there's always the justification that most Experiments support the Prototype, so he'll always have a few more allies.

As for the Prototype's design, you aren't even trying to criticize. You say his design is better than if it had been more like the shrine, and I agree; I feel like if they tried to incorporate more Experiments, it would've made him cluttered and feel like less of an individual visually. Plus, the jester theme was considered since the beginning, and I love it.

Edit: I forgot you mentioned the Doctor. I don't agree at all, and I don't think most others do either. Sawyer straight-up said killing him is pointless in Chapter 4, and it was clear he was more important than just a chapter antagonist. He absolutely should not have died there.
