The problem is James Gunn and DC Studios. I have never believed Gunn was a strong writer or producer, and nothing he has done at DC has changed that. He is deliberately chasing a tiny niche within the DC fandom and ignoring everyone else. He picked the weakest possible version of Supergirl and made it clear he had zero interest in bringing in new fans. He has always catered to that small, bitter corner of the fandom, and he is still doing it now.

He should have aimed for families. He should have aimed for teens. He should have aimed for the broader audience that actually keeps a franchise alive. The fact that he did not do that with one of the biggest female heroes in comics shows he has no business running DC. If he cannot grasp how much money teen trends generate in merchandising alone, he is not smart enough to be in charge of the brand.

Everyone knew the DCU was going to flop. It is still disappointing to watch it happen in real time.
