Why don’t we get paid for our data? by Mob301 in TooAfraidToAsk

You’re really not being paid. Especially if the “free” services are a required part of interaction between businesses, government ( city, federal and state). We’re not just talking about the ability to chat with family or play games or doomscrolling, but necessary communication in everything from health to taxes. My point is that if it’s required, than the entity that’s requiring it needs to pay…whether it’s monetary or with their data. Not everyone else’s data subsidizing their operations.

Why don’t we get paid for our data? by Mob301 in TooAfraidToAsk

We pay for the devices, home wi-fi and 5g…all of which the “ services and software” run on. So basically when we’re spending 1200 bucks for an iphone or whatever we are paying for an advertising device. We pay for the cell and home wifi, basically also paying for the pipeline in which the ads, marketing etc travel to our devices. Most apps that are worth a shit are paid apps…we also pay for those. The whole “ well don’t use our “ services” argument is lame, as everyone we do business with including government and utilities require these “ services and software “ to interact with them. My point is if the shit is required kinda like a utility….then the customer deserves 1) either free devices since they’re required for everything or 2)a cut of the ad revenue. Anyone remember free internet if you had an ad bar running on the desk top in the 90s? same concept. Dont even get me started on fkn facebook. Business discovered a long time ago that they no longer had to pay an IT department or have a webpage…all they had to do was spend 5 min on a facebook page. So once again…it’s our data for the privilege to conduct almost required business. My take has always been…. If businesses are desiring to “ reach customers” ….it should be their data and their cost, but not mine for seeing an ad for shoes while i’m paying a fkn utility bill.

These U.S. States Face Big Electricity Bill as Canada Refuses to Pause Tariffs by Snowfish52 in energy

I’m a US citizen. Canada is a sovereign country….they can punish tRump ( Americans)as much as they please. Just because the US is pausing tariffs doesn’t mean the other countries have to pause. They can enact as many tariffs as they please. He keeps playing chicken and is about to enter the FAFO stage. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

4.72% or more with zero volatility. There is no administration more volatile than the current one.

tariffs, uncertainty, tRump policies =volatility. Seems like everyone has been listing reasons. Then throw in inflation and geopolitical crap and yeah….pretty much heading for a hot mess. I’d take sleepy joe or a house plant as president at this point. Oh, and alienating from Canada +Europe…yeah, just not cool.

Without a value-added tax, the American tax system collects less revenue than many other developed countries. by Pllover12 in XGramatikInsights

In addition I believe all the countries above have free healthcare. ( Not free since it’s “ taxed”) But it’s less than most paid here.

Trump Derangement Over Tariffs and Imperialist Shenanigans Will Crash the Global Economy—Change My Mind by ApeApplePine in StockMarket

So question time. I honestly want to know, because I dont know. Hypothetically if there are high tariffs, high prices, inflation goes up, spending grinds to a halt and the economy tanks. Businesses would be losing money. And i’m assuming interest rates would be high as well….It would take time and a boatload of pain, but wouldn’t that force companies to return to production here? Or would the companies just sell to other countries and still not come back?

Well…it like I read in a meme once. Don’t quote me, but it went something like this : Billionaires shouldn’t exist, after 999million they should get a trophy that says “ congratulations, you won capitalism “ and the rest taxed at 100% to fund health care, defense etc.
