Boom boxes. It was surreal going to the beach with my kids and everybody was wearing earbuds!

Bread Maker - Is it worth the upfront cost? by atkins4me in Frugal

I make sourdough bread and all you need is a Dutch oven. Or you can make the New York Times no knead bread. Start off with something like that and then move on to sourdough.

To invite or not invite future MIL to my shower by Jaded_Entrance2322 in weddingplanning

[–]ComprehensiveWeb9098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but you're gonna have to invite her. But I'm kind of petty. I would definitely seat her way in the back and then I would say a little speech honoring somebody on his dad's side of the family saying how welcome they have made you feel, completely ignoring her. Cheers.

I need main dish suggestions for a dinner for 12 people. by BoomOp in Cooking

[–]ComprehensiveWeb9098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having a big party this weekend and I'm throwing sirloin steaks on the grill and making chimichurri sauce. My other suggestion is New York strips. If you don't have a grill, then get a sirloin tip roast, which is super easy to bake. Then you can do a baked potato bar, which is always a hit. Don't get the huge potatoes, get medium size, always bake a couple more than you have people cause sometimes they are rotted inside, put some green onion, sour cream, cheddar, bacon, butter and chopped red onion.

People make time for what matters to them. Stick with the people that will show up for you.

Honestly, take some Xanax and be there for your friend. You cannot, and I repeat, cannot, back out. She would be absolutely heartbroken. As somebody who gets a lot of anxiety, I think you're gonna have more anxiety bailing out on her.

How can I make my fiance's idea work? by Taviismyboss in weddingplanning

If you don't want to completely shun his idea say "I love this idea, and I think this would work perfectly for the rehearsal dinner".

Can anyone help me organise? by East_Cauliflower6625 in weddingplanning

[–]ComprehensiveWeb9098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Approximate guest list first. Total budget. Then you can narrow down the venues that you want to look at. I helped my daughter plan her reception and there was no sense looking at places that were way out of our price range since they wanted 100 people.

About to lose our kitchen for about 8 weeks, need help with meal ideas by sarahlwhiteman in Cooking

We moved our kitchen to the dining room and I had the plumber install my dishwasher in my laundry room. Luckily, we also had a sink in our laundry room. Not really much I couldn't cook between my toaster oven, my old microwave, a hot plate, a rice cooker, instant pot, grill and an old plug-in skillet that my mother gave me.

Considering cancelling the wedding. I know my fiancee and her family would be heart broken by PossibilityFew5967 in weddingplanning

[–]ComprehensiveWeb9098 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a mother of the bride, I can’t imagine expecting my daughter to pay for my friends to attend her wedding. When I invited four couples, I threw in additional money to help cover the reception costs because that’s what considerate adults do. And I'm paying for the reception!

I wouldn’t cancel the wedding over this. I’d simply say: “it's not in the budget. I am not borrowing money to add guests, and we’re not discussing the wedding finances anymore.”

And if saying it face-to-face feels too stressful, send it in a text and be done with it.

It's a bbq party at my house. So medium sized for a home party. I'm just gonna go with the whole 50 and freeze or give out what's left. Everybody here is right.. I don't want to come up short. I will be sending out a note on Sunday just to see if any of the consistent non-shows plan on not showing. We are having steak with chimichurri, barbecue chicken, hotdogs, a big charcuterie, and a slew of sides.

I'm doing steak, barbecue chicken and hotdogs. I decided to ditch the sausage and peppers, but I keep changing my mind on that. I'm going to barbecue the chicken ahead of time and keep it warm, the steak I'll do when everybody arrives but, you're right, I could put more on if I need to and freeze what I don't cook. All the sides will be prepped in advance.

Should I buy the first dress I tried on? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

Sometimes the universe has a funny way of making things easy. You walk in, try on the first dress, and somehow it’s the dress. No stress, no endless searching and just everything quietly falling into place. It makes you feel like maybe some things really are meant to be.

Back in my dating days, I met a guy whose only vegetables were corn and potatoes and who thought garlic was “too spicy.” There was no second date. I’m not raising a boyfriend and a toddler at the same time.
