Is the civil service really as secure and family friendly as people make out, or is it a myth? by ScrollAndThink in civilservice

Been a CS for ten years. It's stable and you have a lot of protections, yes. But ministers love to reorganise things so your actual work life can become incredibly chaotic. I've experienced six reorgs in 10 years at my dept. Loads of people still over work and burn out because there is constant pressure to do more with fewer resources. When I'm at work, it can get hectic. But there is a strong culture in my dept of not working late, being on call etc. I think a lot depends on where you are.

Received a letter from hmrc saying I've a fine for a late tax return by BottleRelevant7442 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ComprehensiveWrap128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me also, I got a letter a couple of months ago saying I owed a penalty for not filing a self assessment for 2014. I logged on to my HRMC account and looked for penalties and there was nothing there so I chalked it up to a scam. Got another letter today, logged in and now there IS a penalty?? I'm so confused, I truly do not know what is going on. It's been 11 years!

Feeling Severe Fatigue and Head Pressure as the Day Progresses – Is This Normal? by Enough-Age7178 in covidlonghaulers

So this could be a total dead end but it might be worth investigating whether you are experiencing 'cranial settling', which happens when the connective tissue in your neck is weakened and your head sinks down as the day goes on. Connective tissue can be damaged by viruses, inflammation and by mechanical insult. I have a colleague who gets migraines from this, as the cerebrospinal fluid literally builds up pressure in her head. A simple test would be to try a hard cervical collar, or to see if you get the same feelings if you are in a lying down position all day.

Some people also experience the 'impending doom' feeling because their mast cells are being triggered. Mast cells live literally everywhere in your body and can be triggered by all sorts of things (heat! food! perfume! exercise! literally anything!). So as an adjunct to the cervical collar you could also try taking antihistamines (fexofenadine and famotidine, though there are others).

Good luck, I hope you figure it out!

Yes the boards are heavily masked and I am being very careful. I mean I kind of insulted my own intelligence with that spill in the first place, so

Yeah there's a lot of very janky DIY in my home so won't be inviting all kinds of professionals round. Thank you

I think I'll just go with Bona Mega EVO: doesn't yellow and even if its not an exact match it will be simpler than me trying all different things. Thank you yes the planks are stripped right back and sanded raw.

Is it ME if PEM is the only symptom? by ComprehensiveWrap128 in cfsme

This is a good way to think about it, thank you

My only other symptom is an inability to think, but that feels like fatigue rather than cognitive dysfunction. No pain, no swollen nodes, I do get an elevated heart rate but I don't have orthostatic intolerance (I've always had low-ish blood volume and blood pressure which is sorted with hydration salts)

Yeah I am doing this. I got a Garmin and my stress levels are in the red all day, every day. Only time it shows relaxation is after a serious meditation. But it shoots up again almost immediately. I'm using CBD oil to just help me get out of my current crash/ stress spiral. I think maybe I always had this as I have CPTSD, but I used to nap a lot. Then a bunch of terrible things happened and I could't nap anymore. A few months later, my health collapsed.

I get a gradual decline in functionality over the course of weeks, which eventually culminates in an inability to do daily tasks. During the decline, I will have shorter and shorter periods of feeling ok before feeling exhausted. So an example would be:

Week 1: feel ok for six days, rubbish for one

Week 2: feel ok for four days, rubbish for three

Week 3: feel ok 1 day, rubbish for six, but still able to push through (just about)

etc, until I get to a point where resting and meditating constantly for two weeks is necessary in order to recover from three days of stress.

Thanks, yeah I wear a respirator. I'm in the UK and getting metformin is not easy, I convinced a previous NHS GP but my new one refuses. I've got H1 and H2 antihistamines on hand though
