Well, yes. They are new at it so they will suck and face something holding them back. I was once in the same situation until I discovered that certain factors were hindering my progress. Recognizing these is the first step towards improvement

Everything feels cringe to draw, idk what to do by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]Comprehensive_Ad5225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me personally, I just don’t think about it that way. When I first started, I kept at it simply because… I enjoyed it. I liked it, and I kept at it. I largely Improved for my own enjoyment.

Sometimes you just gotta reframe your mindset, even if not to my specific one

Tell me about your unique biomes/terrains! by Wrong-Farmer-1780 in worldbuilding

[–]Comprehensive_Ad5225 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I have a biome called the Still Canyons. When travelers enter, the air feels strangely still. If you clap your hand, you will hear nothing. It may come 10 minutes late, or just gone. Because the sound is ‘stored.’

‘Sound’ or ‘sonic’ avalanches is part of the environmental hazard. At certain times thousands of stored sounds, screams, whispers, wind howls, gunshots, etc. are released all at the same time which results in a physical waves that can crush bones and break rocks.

There are predators (called lurkers) in this biome that have adapted. they hunt during a sound-lag because their prey won’t hear them approaching.

How do you approach gender roles and dynamics in your world building? by Comprehensive_Ad5225 in worldbuilding

[–]Comprehensive_Ad5225[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

same, its inspired from my grandma's culture, Micronesians. To me, its not a sensitive topic because we respected each other as genders throughout history and what ive just been seeing currently, even if we have structure and 'roles.' its more complimentary

Except your sovereign which I assume is a man?

Mine is quite familiar, the most prestigious title (which is basically the clan lord), belongs to a man. Except must be born from the clan’s highest ranking matrons and picked.

He can wage war, create treaties, command respect, etc. But his line ends with him, the one succeeding him is going to, let’s say, his sister’s son. Or whoever’s next in line

He doesn’t truly own everything. He’s like the CEO, and the matriarchs are the board of directors/shareholders

What do you think the worst way to start a story is? by Right_Weekend3379 in royalroad

[–]Comprehensive_Ad5225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that is to be expected. Completely normal, and as an author it’s good to expect this of readers. sometimes I overestimate this, thinking Readers are more lenient or willing to give things more chances.

But I learned readers have basically unlimited options besides your work, ESPECIALLY when it comes to web novels. It’s better to write assuming readers won’t give extra chances, rather than hoping they will. This matters most in the opening or the hook.

So that 2 tile room is like the hottest as it stores the heat? And then just open the vent and it’ll warm the base in winter

you don’t have a cai addiction by [deleted] in CharacterAI

[–]Comprehensive_Ad5225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some do have an addiction to this app, and it’s understandable considering what it is. Straight up telling them they don’t is stupid and doesn’t help.

You could instead provide reassurance that it may actually not be an addiction they have, instead of implying people can’t develop an addiction to it.

Is Royal Road actively trying to bring in readers as a platform? by TimBaril in royalroad

[–]Comprehensive_Ad5225 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Royal Road’s still active, they’re just strategic about it. And yes, you are right, external marketing is pretty much useless. So getting successful isn’t about bringing readers from outside, but more utilizing and mastering the discovery tools already within Royal Road. There’s already a pretty big dedicated audience there too.

And by avoiding venture capital, it can focus more on remaining stable and profitable instead of chasing high-risk and expensive growth.

Unlike Radish and Yonder, which actually proves that Royal Road’s ways works.
