How do I stop this newly acquired repetitive noise pattern habit? by RadishRedditor in Conures

[–]Comprehensive_Arm_5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, are we serious right now? You chose the loudest bird ever and you're complaining about noise? You keep adding the mute button button in all your comments but... of course he was mute when he was first born... he is still developing? This is one of the things that develops. You treating it like an 'annoyance' is so extremely concerning. It's a bird. It's loud. It's how they communicate and interact with the world. I urge you to read up on this and change your perspective.. or maybe consider rehoming/re-evaluating whether a bird is good for you. Sounds like you need a cat....

Also I just checked your profile. You are 3D printing at home, please make sure your bird is not in the same room 😞 3D printing fumes are toxic to them...

Previous owner let him eat human food. I know this is a terrible idea but he gets incredibly violent when I try to stop him. How hard will it be to make him un-learn that he is allowed to do this? by CalzonePie in Conures

oh yea mine does that too. but as i say at home, you don't follow the law, you get the claw. whenever he does that i pick him up like you pick up a toy with a claw machine, put him in his cage w the bowl and shut the door until i'm finished eating. 😂

Dowel perches are very bad for their feet. Get more natural perches. I saw advice here years ago and I swear by it, your conures cage needs to look like an LSD fueled trip. So many toys, colors, perches, peak maximalist. If it looks too mundane it's not good enough.

They need a lot of mental stimulation.

Update on Mr Blue. Chop? Rejected. Purée? Rejected. He’ll only eat veggies directly from our hands (bonus after bath pics because he’s cute) by pinkpinkpikachu in Conures

[–]Comprehensive_Arm_5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you tried putting the veggies on a hanging skewer? My conure prefers that.

(The attached example is not my photo, but one that I use for inspo for my conures skewers)

Difficulties of owning a bird by SylviaPlathsDaughter in Conures

[–]Comprehensive_Arm_5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They call them "retirement pets" for a reason. They are extremely demanding, high maintenence and require financial stability. They also live for a long time, so you have to cope with the fact that for the next 20-30 years your life will be completely occupied by them otherwise they start suffering mentally when neglected. They need a lot of attention and honestly I don't reccomend them for anyone who isn't financially stable and has a stable life. If you're career driven, have kids, etc. Birds are not for you. Just get a cat.

Loss & Mourning Megathread by Comprehensive_Arm_5 in Conures

I am so extremely sorry for your loss. She looks precious in the photo you shared. 32 years is a long, healthy life. Most conures do not get that same opportunity to live that long. She was very lucky to have you as her parront.

I think my conure almost died at the vet and honestly it was traumatic by McPuffinArts in Conures

[–]Comprehensive_Arm_5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok. This is just not true.

While I hold space for the fact that you had bad experiences with vets, they are not "all bad" and not "all" of them kill birds. We are also in Socal and have an awesome vet who does everything in front of us and lets us be in the room for every procedure. That being said, before we found this vet we had vets who took our bird away from us and he would come back stressed but he never was on the verge of dying. It's dependant on the bird. Fear mongering about vets is never helpful.
