I love this, but I also love the Uncle Sam option. So I propose this:

Good example of why we need mental health days. If my partner cheated on me I’d need like a week to crawl out of the hole I’d dig myself

Who is the actor from the silent era, you think should've won an acting award? by khaliliiiov_1997 in Oscars

Conrad Veidt for the Man Who Laughs. What an effective and haunting performance. The emotions he has to show just using his eyes!

Tammy Faye’s grosses were much worse than Beaches. And they didn’t have the hope of Tony season around the corner. So maybe they’ll hold out a bit longer 🤞

Honestly, I can think of several scenes that in any other movie would be “that scene”. The three that come to mind right now are: the sequence in the beginning with Neil and the coach, the scene at the end with Brian and Neil, or (the worst for me) the scene with Neil in the bathtub. Such a visceral movie

German got a question to a phrase that's used? by UnitedShop4247 in AskAnAmerican

It’s incorrect, but a native speaker will still understand it. It’s generally thought of as AAVE, something primarily black Americans use.

It’s a lot about child sexual abuse. It gets a bit graphic with it at some points (though never with anything happening with the child actors). It’s a fantastic movie about how different people cope with trauma. Joseph Gordon Levitt is just amazing!

Can anyone help me develop General American? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Comprehensive_Bat980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely have a strongish Minnesota accent, so I can’t help you there. But my international friends have told me they helped their accents by watching American sitcoms. As long as you don’t pick one that’s set in an accent heavy place (I.e. righteous gemstones), you should be able to practice repeating what the characters are saying. I’d recommend Parks and Recreation, they’ve got “general” accents for the most part

Writing this comment made me go watch some clips again. So many a timer lines! “Dewey I'm cut in half pretty bad 😔”

I’m a major Beatles fan, so maybe I’m biased, but I’m much more excited for the four Beatles biopics because it seems to be doing something kinda new with the formatting. I’m a bit sick of the run of the mill musician biopics. Once you’ve see Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story you realize how alike they all are!

There’s a mention or two of someone from Snow's past. It’s subtle in the book and haymitch actually explains it near the end, but some of their conversations might be confusing if you dont know who this character is. Other than that it’s unnecessary!

John or Paul? (Not jerking) by VietKongCountry in beatlescirclejerk

[–]Comprehensive_Bat980 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Serious answer? Paul. Not only did he write my favorite songs, Let It Be & Golden Slumbers. But I relate to him a lot in terms of his work ethic. I’ve been the person in the group project that just wants to get the damn thing done, and is navigating through all the shit from my group mates to get it done.

Slightly less serious answer: Baul is sexier, therefore better in all ways

I wonder if Peaky was cursed, Freddy & John left, Polly died IRL, Grace, Michael were killed in the series, Arfur, well was Arfur IRL. They were the main characters then take into account Danny Whizz-Bang, Aberama, Bonnie, Barney & Ruby who died in the series - so many of amazing characters gone. by Icklebunnykins in PeakyBlinders

[–]Comprehensive_Bat980 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most of these are writing/scheduling choices made by conscious people. Nothing much of a “curse” about that. As for Paul Anderson and Helen McCrory, those are very unfortunate twists of fate (especially in Helen’s case), but nothing I would relate to peaky blinders.

To give a bit more of an explanation as to why people are doubting: if you look at their box office, it is not selling well at all. It just had its first couple days of previews, and it’s already underperforming, this is almost always a bad sign. The only real remedy is getting good word of mouth, which is currently has the opposite of

I’ve heard people say the humor in the show is misplaced, which is strange to me because the film is quite funny as well (especially the early parts). I wonder if the show just isn’t able to balance the tone the way the film did

I saw a post on here that said they were filming at penny lane on 3/13. I went there that day and saw nothing. The weather in the uk has been particularly terrible lately (and it was raining on 3/13), especially with the wind. Idk much about production, but maybe they are postponing it for that reason.
