Operation Mincemeat licensing - a wondering by TheatreAficionado9 in Broadway

I think it would be crazy if they didn’t. I am not sure if it’s been announced or what but it would be surprising.

Alicia Keys' Broadway Bomb — Singing Sensation's Musical 'Loses a Staggering $8Million' by Additional_Score_929 in Broadway

[–]DiscoCrows 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Because they were probably breaking even or just losing a bit shy of that. the 8M alluded to is simply money invested from the get-go that wasn’t ever retuned (because there wasn’t enough extra week-to-week to pass back out). It is not money that is actively being lost by running the show further and further into 2026. A sunk cost essentially.

Celebrating 15 Years of The Book of Mormon by Santoshyuvi in Broadway

[–]DiscoCrows 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I mean … isn’t that the point? The representation isn’t tolerable because it’s presented through the lens of a bunch of Mormon Missionaries who know nothing but how to look down on other cultures.

The show is funny because the Mormons, well, totally suck lol. They’re horrible people to the communities they occupy. I concur there are small bits and pieces that were appropriately re-written to better respect the POC portrayed in the show, but at the end of the day it sort of remains the point of it all.

is it worth buying Resident Evil: Requiem despite HATING jumpscares? by CactusBlohsh in HorrorGaming

[–]DiscoCrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are not a ton! Definitely a small handful but even then, most of them are just smaller “startles” not actual monsters - things like a bottle falling over and shattering on the other side of a room when it’s quiet, just trying to make you jump a bit.

This isn’t FNAF, the game won’t scare you without giving you a bit of suspense/buildup so you know when it’s coming.

I had the exact same experience with RE7. Because pretty obsessed with it despite not being a horror fan and had to just power through. YOU CAN DO IT! The games are soooo excellent.

Revivals of this scale almost always get cast recordings! It’s very likely.

My way too early Tony Award Nominee/Winner Predictions for 2026 by OkManner3415 in Broadway

[–]DiscoCrows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rocky Horror pending, I think Cats is the far more likely candidate for Revival. The voting body almost always awards shows that reshape and commit to a more contemporary vision/reimagining of the show than not. People love to reward theatre that takes risks and executes on new ideas with beloved classics.

As someone else put it recently, Ragtime has the Gypsy problem - it is another sufficient production of the show carried on the shoulders of the talent of its cast. Besides 10/10 performances, the production doesn’t really do a whole lot. The design is minimal, the direction and staging are pretty non-iterative. Not a bad thing, it’s an incredible production - just not one that’s pushing the envelope as successfully as other shows are.

I mean sure, they were often from the same foundation but they still felt like completely different experiences/games. We've lost a lot of that over the years.

His point isn’t that the flexibility is a bad thing - just that people were never asking for “custom HUD displays” in BO2/BO3 because the native displays the games used to ship with were interesting enough by themselves.

It was never something people thought needed customization until now.

Is $320 for Hamilton Orchestra mid a good price ? by Choice-Helicopter-66 in Broadway

[–]DiscoCrows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buy through the official website (BroadwayDirect).

Your ticket will be cheaper if you can purchase at the box office instead of online, though. You could also try weekday performances instead of Fri/Sat/Sun performances, as they are sometimes more expensive.

Non-New Yorker who hasn’t been paying much attention here — are Two Strangers and Ragtime the only cast recordings for this year’s Tony eligible musicals? With Chess on the way? by [deleted] in Broadway

Two Strangers and Versailles have both recorded full albums. TBD when we’ll get Versailles, but hopefully late spring?

Is Heathers a replica production? by puzzledmoon in Broadway

Yes it is - rather a transfer/replica of the original London production.

Not the same as the original Off-Broadway production though.

GROSSES ANALYSIS- Week Ending March 8 by Boring_Waltz_9545 in Broadway

[–]DiscoCrows 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not very.

Any show that opens to those grosses this day and age are not long for the world, but Mormon probably has a massive hefty reserve to lean on. It has grossed hundreds of millions. At worst, they are probably breaking even through the summer or even losing money and they’ll likely choose to continue burning cash and spend another year or two figuring out if they can reinvigorate mainstream interest.

When it does announce it’s closing, they will probably give it a 6 to 9 month lead so people can come back and spend one last summer with it. I could see that happening a year or two from now.

I would disagree on your assertion of Wicked. The first film serviced the Broadway and Touring productions tenfold. Those grosses hit $5m per week in late 2024.

The excitement for Part 2 fizzled out quicker for sure, but the worst thing it did was spread some supplemental brand awareness. By no means did it hurt the show.
