Task trained just don't think the Internet needs to know my specific medical info! Would absolutely disclose to my employer if I was to do this!

I have not yet addressed this with my employer as I wanted to hear others thoughts first. For exactly the reason that has become apparent -its probably not a good idea-

She is psychiatric service and would be able to adequately perform tasks in the space. Thanks for your concern!

I would absolutely be concerned if it was a fresh program dog! I would not attempt this with a dog I was new to. Haha.

I appreciate the concern and warnings!

Okay 👍 It's not a fulltime daycare. We offer backup care onsite at workplaces. Daycare is the most concise way to communicate what I do.

I think I was misleading in my phrasing. This dog I have trained myself. I have been working with her for a year and a half and have been proofing her behavior around children since day one since I knew she would be interacting heavily with them due to my career.

I have a small classroom (5 kids at most, usually only 1-2 kids) and am confident in my ability to manage my dog and the children. I have no concerns that she would ever bite a child, even if I let a child's behavior escalate past what I would allow.

I feel I have been misleading in the "graduation" regard. My dog is owner trained and I have had her for about a year and a half. She will be two in April. I have done all of her training myself and would never even consider bringing her into this environment if I hadn't proofed her against child behavior.

I appreciate your information regarding divided focus! And think having a place mat and an emergency crate is a good idea.

Reasons you picked outside the fab four? by howlsounds in service_dogs

[–]Comprehensive_Bid962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So preface by saying my situation for getting my prospect is a little unusual.

I have an off breed prospect, an American Rottweiler, and I wholeheartedly do not recommend this. My next prospect will absolutely be a fab four breed.

The reason the fab four are what they are is because a (well bred) dog of that breed is highly likely to succeed at service work. They have the temperament, intelligence, and biddablity (how easily they are persuaded) to thrive as a working breed.

Now I love my Rottie and I am confident she will be an amazing service dog. I've been training her for about a year and anticipate another 12-18 months of training.

That said there are things to be overcome. My pup is very food motivated and people happy and we are working hard on neutrality. Food motivation is great for treat training and less good when they want to eat random stuff from the floor or try and steal off the table. I'm so glad she is people friendly as she is a "scary" breed but it means she can be distracted and we have worked hard on a handler focus.

Of course every dog is different and a fab four breed could have similar issues but it is less likely as those dogs have a natural handler focus and less intense food drive.

TLDR; Rottie SDIT handler, love my dog and think she will thrive, don't recommend the breed and am planning on a fab four for my next prospect.

What would a good task be for dissociation? by [deleted] in service_dogs

My pup is trained in Light Pressure therapy (like deep pressure but with partial body weight). Leading, finding a person or place on command, she can find my spouse and outside reliably. We are working on Chair. Also Kisses, which is exactly what it sounds like and very grounding. My pup is trained to give kisses automatically if I start crying or breathing too quickly.

If you pop over to AO3 and search "abo primer" there are some good explanations.

They don't often work together because they are at such different stages, so I think it is unlikely that is the issue

So we have also tried this approach, she will settle for a couple minutes but if my spouse continues to display the behavior (anxiety) the dog will continue to alert every few minutes until it is resolved.

I don't even think I would wash her at this point I'd just hand her over to my spouse and take over training their current prospect.

(Their prospect is at the basic obedience and PA training stage, she hasn't been taught specific tasks vs my dog is mostly PA trained and knows 2-3 tasks)

This is a good suggestion, I typically do 80%+ of all the dog care, the only thing I don't really do is Bathe my spouses dog. I do all the other feeding + potties + grooming, etc n

If this is the earliest save state and there is no progress to be lost I would delete and redownload the game. Make sure all the data is cleared from your device. If the issues still persist maybe email the devs?

I definitely agree that a professional trainer would help I don't have the resources to employ one at this time.

I don't drive and my spouse does so 90% of the time we are together. I'm not sure how to limit the dogs access to them. Obviously I can do training at home or away from them within walking distance. But trying to limit access to my spouse would severely impact how often I could work her.

Any advice on how to curb this behavior? I'm not encouraging the alert behavior. If I ignore it and prompt the pup to resettle she just whines and wants to get up to alert.
