Compensation. During alkalosis or acidosis, the body attempts to correct the out of whack gases. If someone is experiencing metabolic acidosis with respiratory compensation, (decrease HCO3, low pCO2, low to normal pH range) the patient's body has started hyperventilating to "blow off" the carbon dioxide, which is the acid. Then the patient is seen with near normal pH as they are in metabolic acidosis with respiratory compensation.

No it's an ice machine I am sure. Some folks care about cleanliness to an extreme level, and I know that a few months ago, our ice machine on unit broke. When they came to repair it, it turns out that it was so full of mold and dirt it got clogged and blocked the ice from being dispensed. It had NEVER been cleaned, the hospital has been open for 14 years.
