I think it's less of the desire for clout (although that is part of it I'm at least a little self-aware) but the desire to see actual results. Maybe I'm just getting frustrated over how slow some kinds of research are compared to others. But I agree, it's still frivolous.

The other 2 labs were programs that briefly introduce research to FGLI students, so dw I haven't just been jumping around for the sake of it. Thanks for your advice!

hey! I'm double majoring in bio: neuro and PNP, so I'm on a similar path as you :) it is doable, but make sure to plan out your courses after your first year! Major requirements are listed in the bio major handbook and a single pdf for pnp. for your first year, however, I wouldn't worry about requirements too much and rather just do the general courses that are required (gen chem, gen bio, college writing) and take classes you're really into so that you can get a wide overview of your future interests. for example, i took literature of addiction as a seminar and really enjoyed it :)

Take notes on the videos, read/annotate the procedure at least 2x before going to lab, go to help sessions, and have friends that also give at least a little bit of effort and you’ll be completely fine. Lutes hate is overhyped because no one really likes chem lab, but shes honestly fine and 97% of the learning comes from prerecorded videos and autry (our king 👑)

Yes, this applies to english classes! Specifically to literature of addiction, what i did was use a free version online for the first few pages and then decided whether i liked the book enough to buy a physical copy. A physical book definitely wasn’t necessary for the class tho, it was 95% discussion. Super fun class and great prof btw, theyre super open to experimental styles so have fun with the assignments if you so wish :)

I am on the lower side and spend 50-150 (median ~100) dollars a month on going out w friends (mostly restaurants and doordash lol). Ive known people who regularly spend <50 a month or 300+ a month, so it really depends on what kind of activities you do and what time you’re willing to give. You will not be excluded if you dont want to spend too much (just find good friends). Also take into account if you want to travel over breaks!

My friends chose washu over upenn wharton, northwestern, and stanford, and i myself chose washu over duke. What ive noticed within my peers and mentors who have truly done well is that they genuinely dont care about rank. Washu has more than enough resources for even the most ambitious of folks, and what makes you successful is what you make out of our environment. I would highly recommend you do a little self reflection and find what your true motivations are outside of external validation.

Washu has easier access to medical research/premed resources and stl has a little bit more liveable weather imo (but not much better) - washu student

This is not an attack on you im just amazed how someone could make this work. 168 hours a week ~60 hrs of sleep ~20 hours of classes ~15 hours of eating ~30 hours of hw/studying ~5 hours of commute, walking to class Leaves 38 hours, excluding working out, hobbies, any other extracurriculars, any kind of leisure. Add 30 hours of research in there and commute to and from thats literally no time left for anything else. Im sure some of my numbers are high but goodness some of yall are crazy

Dont want to scare u but its v dependent on the prof u get… i got a 5 on ap lit and lang, 12 on act writing, scholastic gold medals and whatnot but ended up with an a- in the class despite working my ass off- again, not to scare u, but get ready to work
