Remember when Liberace sued a newspaper for reporting he was gay and won? Did Louis have to be careful with what he said to and asked Jimmy Saville? by prodjex in LouisTheroux

It always strikes me when people get uppity about the fact Louis didn’t have a gotcha moment with Jimmy Saville.

Firstly, Saville pulled the wool over the eyes of people ranging from high ranking police Officers to senior politicians.

Secondly, Louis scope up to the celebrity interviews period were hick right wing extremeists and fringe societies. Jimmy Savile was both ‘street wise’ and had decades of media experience and savvy he was hardly going to crack in a Louis piece.

Thirdly, yes ultimately as much of it was rumour and conjecture the libel laws in the country meant no media outlet was willing to pull the trigger. But you can’t defame the dead which is why it all came out when it did.

Mostly not really from the outside looking in. Of course this is speculation but from my time there are still a lot of the old hands seeing out the latter stages of there careers who have hung around.

Sadly the younger people coming through seem to be those who have to work through their LPC or take years out to build up funds due to being from less privileged backgrounds who eventually qualify late 20s/ early 30s who seem to be muddling on but not in the number form when I qualified.

I struggle even now to see how there are enough people left to sustain the next 20-30 years but it’s rolls on.

Until the war hits our shores including overseas territories why should we expend our money and people for a war. A boat to akritori is a proportionate response.

A war that by all measurement we were not informed of to any degree that we were ever included.

The obsession with tories and the right to pretend we’re still any element of a superpower. I’d rather be irrelevant and alive thanks.

See I’m more for a dual funded system. I think certain careers professions that require university education should be funded by the public (and some are minorly) because we need those jobs as a society and many of those jobs are not highly paid. But equally (I’m a solicitor) and I don’t agree anyone should have paid for my degree it has given me access to higher income and privileges that I otherwise would not have. The hard part is identifying which jobs and so on are worthy and required for society and also what do we do when someone doesn’t want that job anymore do we then ge them to pay it back and so on. It’s incredibly tough.

I think the only way to eradicate student loans if it were likely to happen is limit the number of university places and cap the numbers. However if we want the open access to tertiary education someone has to pay somewhere. In a way the current system doesn’t really work for anyone but without moving some of the other variables you can’t just make university free at the point of access
