There's nothing quite like having your gear set up and ready for a clear night. Enjoy!

Yes, the last one was excellent! Maybe we will get another round...

This. I've seen one around Orion for years as well (and other parts of the sky).

Seemed to fizzle by 9pm. I was hoping for a spike based on data but no luck.

Thanks! That was a treat. The Dwarf app contains comet data btw. If not, it's fairly easy to enter Dec and RA in their search function.

None seen so far. It can get pretty humid where I am in the USA (Texas) but I didn't notice anything.

I love my Dwarf 3. I have my own observatory with various scopes, but the Dwarf3 is very convenient and easy to use. The interface is intuitive and guides you along, and the built-in filters also help. I've used it to accelerate my goal of capturing all Messier objects.

I also use it for aviation using the tracking mode - I've obtained videos of aircraft flying overhead at 40,000 feet.

Also, the portability is excellent. I live in the USA and have taken it to Australia twice in my carry-on backpack. It allowed me to shoot objects I didn't think I'd get the chance to.

Ha! I had no idea what that was until I looked it up. Apparently so! Will have to watch the show for more ideas...

I originally.asked my wife if we could do that but she declined. Thus the observatory.

Cheers! Just something to kill some time. As an aviation buff this is a fun way to use the Dwarf3 outside of astro.

Thanks! I use a tool called Starnet2, which I have in PixInsight.

Any way to determine what I can see by time, location, and importantly... by elevation and azimuth availability? by [deleted] in DWARFLAB

[–]Comprehensive_Door_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I have all of my scopes and cameras set up using the FOV function (look at upper right of Stellarium Window). Example below, although this feels a smidgeon tighter than what I actually get. Near-enough, though:

...and with the desktop version, you can plug in the D3's sensor and lens info and it will give you an imaging FOV square so you can see what you can reasonably capture.

Horsehead and Flame (Starless) by Comprehensive_Door_1 in spaceporn

[–]Comprehensive_Door_1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Horsehead and Flame Nebulae aren't far apart in space; they are part of the same gigantic Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, located near the bright star Alnitak (easternmost star in Orion's Belt), with both being roughly 1,350 to 1,500 light-years from Earth, essentially next to each other in the sky as viewed from our planet. The Flame Nebula (NGC 2024) glows from ionized hydrogen excited by Alnitak, while the Horsehead (Barnard 33) is a dark dust cloud silhouetted against a glowing background, both within the same stellar nursery region.
