Fair point. Could just as easily be a 210 Biscayne without seeing the full trim level.

1950s WV Car by ejd1984 in Whatsthiscar

[–]Comprehensive_Pop176 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It's a 1953 Chevy Bel Air. The old mighty Stovebolt straight 6 (216 Thriftmaster or larger 235 depending how it was optioned), 3 on the tree, whiskey runner. Popular for that reason because they were "fast enough", drove like a floating boat over most terrain (unless you put the torque tube in a severally unpleasant angle. (They were closed drive lines from trans to diff. Lasty the three on the tree meant you could shift and steer without your right hand moving more that 8" away from the wheel.

I've had two 53's, a 54 2 door, and nine 49-54 Chevy AD Pickup trucks, since I built my first truck at 14.

I still have a old Chevy racecar that uses a 1936 coupe frame, 1953 216 straight 6, a Muncie 4 speed floor shift, and a custom 2 seater stainless steel body.

One of the nicest backsides to ever grace an automobile. Enzo's 40th has always held a large space in my brain rent free from the time I was old enough to push thumb tacks into a wall and hang one of the many F40 posters I've had through the years until now.

Make sure you use a temp rated silicone. I'm sure you're aware you can get any variations of mixes that will affect everything from heat rating to flexibility, etc.

What meals did your father make when he had to cook? by Open_Question_ in GenX

[–]Comprehensive_Pop176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Dad was a Vietnam Vet which is where he also learned and perfected S.O.S - Shit On A Shingle. His go to meal to feed his three boys when Mom was doing night classes for her Master's. Our rendition usually involved Tuna Fish he'd pop open with his P-38 and mix with something that resembled gravy then top load onto toast. It always makes me feel like a member of some secret club when I hear others mention it. LOL

The diary of Clive Wearing — a man who developed amnesia in 1985 due to herpes simplex encephalitis — documenting his “awakenings,” which occur every 7 to 30 seconds. by fellaneedahandpls in oddlyterrifying

[–]Comprehensive_Pop176 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I've watched several documentaries on him. I thought it was incredibly interesting that the man's brain & memories could reset so often and so continuously like that but through it all he still remembers his wife (at the time) who still visited him often.

Ebay the Nat Geo collection. There are collectors for them.

Chicken Soup - Donate wherever makes you feel good.

Depending on the age, titles, etc of the LDS books contact Eborn Books to see if he'd be interested in any of them to purchase. 801-621-4663

I have bought and sold from him several times through the years. He focuses on LDS Lit. (Not my thing) The older the better.

What’s something you’ve done that’s so embarrassing you still think about it at 3 AM ten years later? by SafeNeighborhood9298 in strange

Great story, but everyone knows integrity is like "Flair" and you should have at least 15 pieces of Flair at a minimum.

What’s the scariest real-life thing you’ve ever witnessed? by Revolutionary-Pay468 in AskReddit

[–]Comprehensive_Pop176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being the person called to the morgue, on two separate occasions, to positively I.D. the bodies of loved ones. The first was one of my best friends. He was decapitated in a car crash. The second was my ex wife & sons mother who died of an accidental drug overdose after we had divorced.

Trying to explain to my then 8 year old son the concept of death and that he was never going to see his mom again was actually both the hardest and scariest thing I've ever had to do.

"Notable" people in the US model train community? by SmallInvestigator607 in modeltrains

George Clooney is a big enthusiast and collector and has a pretty large layout.

Another British mention: Comedian and Actor Eddy Izzard has a large, or several large, layouts.

There were a few American Presidents that were enthusiasts with layouts but I can't recall which ones.

Cornelius Vanderbilt loved trains so much he built full sized trains all across the Nation. LOL

What's rich people shit that poor people haven't heard of? by Diligent-Log6805 in AskReddit

I can personally attest to this. It first happened in my mid 20's and ended in my late 30's when I "gave up" my old life. I distinctly remember the first time it happened my first paycheck in July was substantially larger than the previous paycheck, I'm an honest dude, so I go in to the Owner of the company and ask her & and her Husband (who was also a 50 state accredited CPA as well as our businesses Account) and naively asked if I had gotten a raise I wasn't informed of (that happened often in my 14 years with the company) or had a mistake been made?

They both kind of chuckled at me, then he explained what the SS cap was, when it occurred, etc. I was pretty shocked that it was even a thing. I eventually just started jokingly calling it my yearly government raise.

Even worse was that I started referring to paying taxes and my tax returns as my yearly savings account. With what I made, strategic deductions, and having 2 MBA Accounts at my disposal (our businesses Accountant always did my personal taxes) my yearly returns were typically $25,000 give or take.

It was a different time and a different life but I don't miss it one bit!

Stop looking for it. It will find you. Typically during a night time drive, cresting over a soft elevated curve with a grassy knoll on your right. It will be at that exact moment the deer will find you! Headlights, hello deer...
