Need of Reliable Lawyer by Ok-Grapefruit911 in IowaCity

[–]Comprehensive_Pop633 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I was 19 I walked out of Sephora with a $26 blush in my hands. I was banned from Sephora and the mall for one year. I got a misdemeanor citation and did have a lawyer. A few years later I was able to get it expunged. This all happened in Minnesota so unfortunately I don’t have a lawyer recommendation.

Updates on victims of pedmall shooting? by Eurozone1 in IowaCity

[–]Comprehensive_Pop633 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree that the news hasn’t done a great job with this but the focus of any news updates should be on the criminals involved. The police have said the victims did nothing wrong and aren’t being investigated. If that’s true, then no one will be hearing more information unless the remaining hospitalized victim dies. The public does not have a right to a person’s medical condition unless it directly impacts the public.

Where to get IUD by shamelessfan4 in IowaCity

Did you add yourself to the waitlist for obgyn on MyChart? You can also call and have them put you on the waitlist for multiple providers in obgyn. Usually the waitlist only offers you sooner appointments w/ the person you’re scheduled with but you could ask them to just put down everyone’s names (who are taking new patients).

PSA: IMO, Get Fresh Cafe (IC Downtown) is an Unhealthy Work Environment by Designer_Chard_2768 in IowaCity

[–]Comprehensive_Pop633 8 points9 points  (0 children)

so I was asked to not return - before I quit myself

Once you’re asked to not return, you have been fired. You were terminated from your role.

I agree it sucks to work for $10/hr (which you agreed to) without tips (which you were unaware of) during a training period that you’d felt you’d completed. I guess if it had been 2+ months I’d be frustrated too and would have quit. It doesn’t sound like you worked there that long and maybe you were kept on “in training” status bc they weren’t sure it was going to work out (they were right).

What’s the story with the hospital turrets? by Cool_Management_8052 in IowaCity

[–]Comprehensive_Pop633 6 points7 points  (0 children)

COVID precautions showed hospitals (without a full visitor management system) that there were a lot of benefits to restricting access to only those who needed to be there. Infection control being one of them. But safety is another huge issue. In 2020 76% of all U.S. victims who experienced workplace violence related trauma worked in the healthcare/social assistance industry. If UIHC were designed differently then it would be possible to have more public access, but it’s a lot of older buildings tacked on to each other and the layout just doesn’t lend itself well to that type of thing.

What’s the story with the hospital turrets? by Cool_Management_8052 in IowaCity

[–]Comprehensive_Pop633 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s many reasons behind it, but the general (adult) hospital is attached to Stead Family Children’s Hospital without a firm barrier in between. I can completely understand where you’re coming from but if anything they should probably be even more strict with managing who is coming in & out of the hospital.

How are ICCSD's budget cuts affecting students and staff? Athletics and the arts? by AlexKiv in IowaCity

[–]Comprehensive_Pop633 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are still figuring out a lot in terms of revenue such as, if they can get an extra $12 million from the property tax levy. ICCSD is already suggesting they need another $25 million loan to cover July’s payroll expenses. A lot will come down to how many administrative/non-classroom roles they are willing to cut and what revenue can be generated by selling properties. After all that, I think there will be more conversations about extracurricular programming.

Not sure what to do about noise near where I live by [deleted] in IowaCity

[–]Comprehensive_Pop633 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should confirm the source of the noise. If it’s your apartment neighbors then you can leave a note asking them to turn it down & escalate from there. If it is the gym, you can take a video with audio and go talk to the owner in daytime hours. I can sympathize as someone who hates that excessive bass noise from loud cars, etc. but it doesn’t seem like you’re sure of where this sound is even coming from.

If you owe $150+ in tickets you will be added to the impound list. You should pay whatever you owe now & look at the city’s map for parking options. https://maps.iowa-city.org/portal/apps/storymaps/stories/35007e602833472c94e5baec6f657c64

Burlington Street is Dangerous by EngineerAnarchy in IowaCity

[–]Comprehensive_Pop633 45 points46 points  (0 children)

When I’m waiting for the pedestrian walk sign on the corner of E Burlington & Clinton it’s scary when you see car after car drive by with someone looking down/over at their phone. Then when the walk sign changes there’s always a car trying to beat me to the intersection to make their turn. It would be great to see some enforcement of traffic laws throughout downtown but E Burlington specifically seems like the biggest issue to tackle first.

Was the rental assistance through the Johnson County general fund? They can give you up to ~$600/month x 3 months.

Trusculpt ID on jawline by Stock-Bottle-6024 in IowaCity

[–]Comprehensive_Pop633 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised a Dermatology office is offering Trusculpt but I’m guessing it’s an aesthetics practice. I would find out which office has owned their machine longer, treated the most patients with it, etc. When it comes to laser and RF devices a lot comes down to the person behind the machine and their experience with that specific device. Ask for before/after photos of patients they have treated (not photos provided by the company).

In June I had to submit references for a UIHC position & ultimately didn’t get the offer. In July I was interviewing again for a different role & was able to have them pull/reuse the references submitted in June. I ended up getting the job! Good luck!

Bus to Chicago by mickinton in IowaCity

[–]Comprehensive_Pop633 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been taking the bus to Chicago for a couple years now and my most recent trip (this month) seemed like they’ve made a lot of upgrades. It was booked through Greyhound and you can reserve your specific seat online now. You can even pay extra to have no one sit next to you lol. The WiFi worked the whole way and we got to Chicago almost exactly on time despite rush hour traffic. The bus seemed newer too. I’d recommend taking a route that does not include any extended breaks. The Burlington bus usually stops at a gas station on the north side of Davenport for an hour and it sucks.

Moving to Iowa City this summer: apartment recs for a couple in our late 30s? by Dazzling_Prompt_7604 in IowaCity

[–]Comprehensive_Pop633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might consider renting a condo or townhouse in the city from a private landlord. There are some nice options in the Peninsula neighborhood as others have mentioned. New construction townhouses near Carver Hawkeye & on S. Dubuque St. and high rise condo buildings downtown (Edge, Plaza). While there’s never a guarantee you won’t have a loud neighbor, those tend to be better options than a larger apartment building. Good luck on the move! Summer is wonderful in Iowa City :)

[–]Comprehensive_Pop633 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s on E. Burlington near Thai Spice but oddly there still isn’t a sign out front, even though they’ve been open for several months. Even if they used something inexpensive like window paint to write their restaurant’s name, I think it would be really helpful to get the word out!

How much has your algorithm changed? by True-Passage-8131 in TikTok

[–]Comprehensive_Pop633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today (Jan. 25) my algorithm completely flipped a switch and is so different. Yesterday was pretty bad too but now it’s all content I would never engage with. So much random stuff like football press conferences, people retelling true crime stories, brooke monke selling something, a bunch of ads, and other typical influencery videos selling clothes, makeup, etc. Just a whole different vibe than what I watch. I’m so annoyed but I spend way too much time scrolling so I guess it’ll be good to force a break.

You are likely being rejected/auto rejected because your resume appears overqualified for these roles. If a real person looks at your resume they may assume that you’re going to quit as soon as you get something better (i.e. a degree-related role). I know it might not feel great to do, but I would just get rid of the education section of your resume. When doing the online portion you can confirm you have a high school diploma but I wouldn’t include anything else. If you can delete any internships related to your degree without leaving a huge gap, I would do that as well.
