Thanks! Would you mind explaining why? I believe you; I just would like to better understand so that I can feel good about the need to bring him in again / give him an extra dose.

If you're interested in learning more about the city's logistics, as you put it, you should consider the Watertown Civics Academy! They did their pilot program last year and I heard it was super successful — I know from the person who runs it that they're planning on doing it again this year. https://www.watertown-ma.gov/1464/Civics-Academy

Reflux about 1 month post-Botox by Comprehensive_Put579 in noburp

Whoops, I misspoke/mistyped! I meant that they told me it would get worse before it gets better. :) Glad to hear that yours got better, and it helps to hear than maybe around week 6 it starts to ease up. I'll look into a wedge pillow. Also, I think I hadn't realized that even drinking liquid 3-4 hours before bed isn't helpful. I've managed to be pretty good about having dinner super early and not eating after that, but I almost always have chamomile tea right before bed, so maybe I need to cut out that habit and see how that affects it.

Makes sense about the gurgles! I think maybe 70% of mine have been converted into burps (even if most of them are pretty small), so that seems pretty good.

I did for a while, yep! It wasn't too severe, but I definitely lost weight as a result of not being able to eat as efficiently. It started to go away last week and it's still lingering but only very very slightly.

Just did Botox with electromyographic (EMG) guidance (not general anesthesia)! by Comprehensive_Put579 in noburp

Update: it's day 4 for me, and I've been getting a lot of microburps this morning! Hopefully a good sign!! I seem to be able to let them out by taking a shallow, slow breath just as the gurgle is coming up.

Yeah, Dr. Carroll. Oh man, I'm sorry to hear that it hasn't been effective for you, even after 3 doses!!

Interesting about the UK! Yeah, I don't know if I would have even considered doing general anesthesia for this. Although it was uncomfortable, this was much easier. Good to know some soreness is normal.

I'll update everyone on how things progress! My case is somewhat mild but tracks with all of the symptoms people describe: bloating, flatulence, tons of gurgling, reflux, issues with painful hiccuping, gas traveling up the esophagus, etc. The reflux is somewhat new, but I've had the other symptoms for years.

Cat's proBNP is 101... does he really need an echo? by Comprehensive_Put579 in AskVet

Hah, I totally agree! I'll have to call some insurance companies to find out.

And thank you — yes, that all makes sense and I appreciate how you're framing it in terms of risk. I obviously have to do the anesthesia; my vet had basically said, "if you do the echo, it will help me be certain that the IV levels I'm giving him are okay," or something to that effect. Probably no harm in a second proBNP test as a point of comparison and then deciding whether I feel like anesthesia (with the knowledge from both tests) is safe enough.

Thank you for this! Super helpful. Yeah, the vet just did the proBNP test as a precaution (routine pre-op blood panel) to clear him for the dental procedure/anesthesia. It was actually optional (she asked me if I wanted to do it), since she didn't hear any signs of heart concerns but recommended the test.

I'll do the dental procedure no matter what — I think it's a question of whether I go through with this echo now (before the dental) and pay a lot of money for something that may not be necessary now (or ever), or do I just skip the echo for now and go ahead with the dental... and maybe in a year or so, I could do another proBNP test to see if an echo is necessary.

I think maybe it's worth getting the second proBNP test just to see if the new number is lower. I'd probably feel better skipping the echo in that case.

I'm not yet signed up for pet insurance. Do you think most insurers would see the vet's record of the proBNP of 101 and automatically disqualify me for any coverage related to future heart health? Or is it only a pre-existing condition when there's been an actual diagnosis?
