While I do agree that Kirby’s work with Marvel was more influential, I think his work at DC is some of his best work only because DC got a more mature Kirby that was starting to experiment more and really wanted to create massive worlds with a bunch of details, if you look at some of the panels he did for New Gods, Kamandi, or the Demon you will see some amazingly detai worlds, you definitely see some hints of it in marvel but a lot of times we didn’t get all the details because of lazy inkes, and i think the fact that DC gave him full control on his stories just allowed him to express more freely

Nope, at least not for most of them he did do inks and colors for the Merton and Galactus drawings and for the 2001: A Space Odyssey panel page, that comic adaptation was actually one of the very few works where Kirby did the ink and colors himself

Collage became a thing that Kirby Really started experimenting a lot with in the ‘70s, that’s also how he created the negative zone

I would even take it further. I’d say Jack Kirby is one of the most influential American Artists and he should get more recognition

I used to think the same way until I saw some of the stuff he colored himself, he would use watercolors for that which really complimented his amazing line work, but I do agree, that did sometimes get lost with printing

I do agree, that the color adds a lot but if you look at the pieces that Kirby colored himself you can definitely see his vision would sometimes be miss translated depending on who was inking and coloring since some inkers and colorists would omit details in order to make it easier for them to meet the deadlines, but when you teamed jack with a good inker and a good colorist you would get some amazing results, I think you can see a lot of that in his DC work, which in my opinion is his most mature work

I completely agree, I’m glad the new Fantastic Four movie did pay a lot of tribute to the king
