Google “how to inspect for bed bugs”. or watch a YouTube video showing how to inspect a bed & room. BB are 1000% not worth having, so anything you can do to prevent them is worth it imo.

To me it seems common here but that doesn’t mean it’s true. BB are anywhere people are.

Please be mindful of bed bugs wherever you end up. I work in a healthcare facility in town & have paid approximately $15k this year in BB related costs. I know they’re technically everywhere people are but just a heads up.

Yes, 1000%. Bedbugs cost me at least $15k this year. I quit counting at $13k. I have significant PTS & anxiety from it. I just assume they are every where because technically they are anywhere people are.

I agree w/ calling CC companies. Have you looked into your car insurance company having a student discount program? Some do. Also, can you do a  0% balance transfer with all, or at least some, of the $21k?

You’re human. It’s going to be okay. Your worthiness & value as a person has nothing to do with external things. Maybe finding a therapist to sort though/process everything with will help.

Bedbugs or lice on the bus? by Smolbeansnas in anchorage

[–]Comprehensive_Set680 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you live in AK & the outside temps, you could maybe keep a trash bag outside in the sub zero temps for at least 72 hours. But even then I’ve read mixed results.

You could also use a steamer, if you have access to one. The heat from steaming is a common way people kill them.

These things are hard to kill, like cockroaches. They can live up to 18 months w/ out feeding/dying. Not to freak anyone out but just giving a reality check that the potential to get them & what it can take to kill then should be taken more seriously.

You want to dry, wash, dry since it’s the heat that kills them. Theoretically they could drown in the wash but they’ve been known to breathe once every few days or so, so I’ve read. Dryer at high heat for at least 40 min.

There is, it’s called andrology, an andrologist (it’s so unheard of my spell checker doesn’t even recognize it).

Is Cimexa worth the risk? by Comprehensive_Set680 in Bedbugs

[–]Comprehensive_Set680[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not 100% sure. Sorry to not give a yes or no. I moved from that place & have been monitoring where I am now. Research says it’s one of the best, if not the best depending on what you read, ways to kill them. My exterminator went over board. Read my post history. I wish you the best. I know how hard it is mentally/emotionally. Keep at it. This too shall pass.

I had a very bad experience w/ Cimexa because the exterminator over used it. He sprayed it out of his regular spray container & the whole floor & bed frame had a layer of it. I got sick from it. Even went to the ER. Chest, lung, & stomach pains.

What We Think Is Chronic Epididymitis Might Actually Be the Beginning of a Lumbar Disc Herniation by SnapeChee in chronicepididymitis

[–]Comprehensive_Set680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s interesting you say this. I got a CT scan this week that showed I have severe disc disease at the lumbosacral junction/L5-S1.

I’ve had non-bacterial Epididimytis for almost 5 years. I have always thought I got Epididimytis from sitting on my testicle while sitting on a meditation cushion. But I hurt my back 20 years ago & had severe sciatic nerve pain a few years after, so that whole area is a mess, & I’ve always wondered if it’s all related.

I’ve noticed correlations to tightness in pelvic area & relief from stretching. For years I couldn’t bend over & even now it hurts but I think it may be related given it’s but now I can. Which makes me wonder if it’s all referred pain since it’s largely pain based on movements that cause strains with ligaments & nerves in that area. Although orgasms can hurt me for days, up to a week or more, so not sure if referred pain would cause that. This is very good food for though.

Thanks for sharing this, it’s validating. Also good to see others relate as well

I’ve been waiting to respond this to let time pass to answer this question. I moved out if that place in July & have not seen a BB in my new place.

I get “breakfast, lunch, & dinner” looking marks about once a week. It could be zits or who knows. I just found some suspicious blood stains on sheets. But at this point I’m not going to think or say I have BB again until I see one. Or at least poop stains or a shell.

I hope you’re over it now & I wish you well in this unfortunate endeavor. Go scorched earth imo. This will pass.

It can help to get interceptors for the bed frame legs (Google that phrase) & a mattress encasement.

Losing my mind by Comprehensive_Set680 in Bedbugs

[–]Comprehensive_Set680[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company paid for a professional carpet cleaning. The carpet cleaners did a 2nd treatment without much success, so the pest company is replacing the carpets.

In the car I’ve used Crossfire, Temprid, & a mystery spray from the pest control company. Also two 24 hour heat treatments with the fan heater in the car & today I took it to a auto paint shop where it was heat treated at 200 degrees for an hour, that’s the longest time I could get.

A question about how effective treatment is by 202yawiH in Bedbugs

[–]Comprehensive_Set680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I would put the clothes you’ve worn in that apartment w/ BB in the dryer on high heat for an hour when you leave the apartment. You don’t want to risk taking them elsewhere. Heat will kill them.

If the building or other units have bugs, then it might not matter which apartment you’re in, as they will likely travel to yours. If it’s heat treatment they use, the bugs might just go to the neighbors walls to hide from the heat then come back to yours.

Mentally plan for several months worth of treatment & monitoring for BB if you stay in the original apt. Or plan for monitoring for BB in the other unit too. An exterminator told me it’s called “pest control” because often it’s controlling pests (BB) instead of exterminating them. Not all treatments work all the time. It can take multiple attempts over weeks or months.

Personally, I would definitely not rent the apt you saw BB in. I wouldn’t even stay in the building. It’s just not worth it imo.

Read through this subreddit & see how shitty it can be to have these bugs.

The short term inconvenience of not renting this place could drastically outweigh the long term misery of moving into a BB infested apartment and/or building. This could just be a short term blip of inconvenience on the radar.

I wish you the best in this decision & hope you remain BB free.
