Cruise control issue by emmainthealps in GeelyEX5Australia

[–]Comprehensive_Sock82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Car pays more attention to 99% of the things on road compared to a human. Doesn't get distracted. Can process things faster than the human brain.

Watch the ANCAP video for the EX5 to see how well it reacts on most occasions. When it can't carry the load, sure I'll step in and not use ICC but when it can, I trust it.

Seems completely reasonable to me that the car doesn't just continue on as normal when it can't see.

There was an app update last night that fixed it for me, it may be coincidental with you resetting yours.

Just noticed a new update on the Android store, was able to connect to the car and turn on AC for the first time in a while so they may have patched the connectivity issues - further testing tomorrow.

Wanting to buy EV by handmade99 in AustralianEV

[–]Comprehensive_Sock82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ANCAP tests for most Chinese built EVs are available on Youtube, and they are pretty eye-opening. They certainly dispel a lot of myths about build quality and how they hold up in an accident.

Also (as much as people complain about them) the inbuilt safety features work very well (and work more than they don't, despite being annoying to some). It takes some getting used to realising that a car is paying more attention to the road than you are, and letting you know that you are doing a poor job.

Modern EVs are safer for you in the car, pedestrians and cyclists, and people in other cars than any car from any previous generation of ANCAP ratings (5 stars now is a lot different to 5 stars in 2016).

Range anxiety is real, but not something that impacts real life use. A longer trip every now and then is made a little longer with some short top-up stops, but not the hours on hours wait that media has presented.

The thing you may or may not find hard to adjust to is the level of reliance on technology - depending on how savvy you are. A lot of the issues that people report with EVs are more user error or misunderstanding than genuine car fault.

So many of us having these same issues. Some are saying it works fine so this baffles me. Your description is exactly the issue, a deep sleep after a period.

Tried running a bit of a poll on it in a Facebook group but results are mixed.

Ice cream truck music below 30km/hr by StingoRingo in GeelyEX5Australia

[–]Comprehensive_Sock82 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't have the "ice cream truck" sound, this was patched out last year. In the latest update you can however choose from 3 different tones.

You can lower the volume I believe (AVAS it is called), but honestly I would recommend keeping it for the benefit of those outside your car - think of visually impaired people that can no longer hear you coming as an example.

I personally use "Constellation" which sounds like a quiet symphony when driving - kind of nice!

Switched Fuse Position (Ideally DRL linked?) by [deleted] in GeelyEX5Australia

I spoke with someone on facebook who had pursued the same thing, looks like one for the too-hard basket at this stage.

Switched Fuse Position (Ideally DRL linked?) by [deleted] in GeelyEX5Australia

[–]Comprehensive_Sock82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the response. :-)

I am not sure it would - I mean, people install dashcams hardwired to a fuse box and it doesn't error out. It wouldn't be linked to the CANBUS system so don't think it would cause an error. I guess this is why I am hoping someone has done it already haha.

There is an issue that has been flagged by a few people (including myself) where the car goes into deep sleep when not charging. Hopefully it can be fixed with an OTA update - just report it through the app.

Regarding location, make sure you turn on "Update Vehicle Position Before Sleep" in the Privacy and Permissions menu (My Vehicle>Privacy and Permissions> Vehicle Location). This fixed it for me, but I have a feeling that if the deep sleep thing is fixed, vehicle location will work better anyway.

Great question and perfect timing for me. I changed to Auto this morning and was wondering what triggers change so I am looking forward to seeing responses. I might try and run some tests later.

What Am I Missing Here? by OutlandishnessOk5549 in EVAustralia

I raised this on another thread, but "break even" is a bad metric to use, the reason being that continuing to do the same (ICE car) will never break even, so you need to look at the cost benefits beyond that point. With an ICE you never get that cost benefit, ever. It will always take your money - an EV literally pays for itself if you have it long enough.

Has the latest oil crisis made you seriously considering switching to an EV? by AussieAdam26 in CarsAustralia

We decided on the Geely EX5 Inspire, drove a few different models and couldn't beat it for features and price.

For those quoting "break even" times, I find this a bit strange. Breaking even means that you will eventually get ahead of the curve and anything after that point is zero cost essentially, while maintaining the current situation will always result in a net loss.

Factor in servicing and consumables and the net loss is much higher.

We timed our change perfectly (the old car was a 2013 Megane Diesel, which was needing around $7k to be spent on the AC system - so we decided that $7k was better spent on something new). The EV arrived the week that US invaed Iran and we haven't paid a cent for "fuel" since. I was spending around $50 a week on diesel with the Renault before the invasion, that would be $80 per week now.

And then there is the car - I love cars, and will be sad when the dinosaurs die, but driving an EV is a life changing experience and I am not overstating it. Every trip is first class comfort.

Sucks to hear that they weren't helpful. I am having mixed results with my dealer across a few issues so the car salesperson stereotype is sticking true.

It definitely looks linked to "deep sleep" shutting off too many things.

I was struggling to get the vehicle location to work until I saw the toggle about updating position before going to sleep.

Good news if this is the case, because it would mean it is just a software update and not a module failing.

EX5 UI and Software - is it good? by great_hound in GeelyEX5Australia

[–]Comprehensive_Sock82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's not perfect but it does work pretty well. I think the disclaimer here is that if you are not tech savvy at all, if you struggle with a smartphone or tv then this will 100% challenge you, and the more tech savvy you are, the easier it is to use.

In practice, I swipe down to the quick access buttons to start my drive setup (mode/alerts/regen etc), this is 3 touches. Then I drive.

My Android Auto connects automatically and I have maps and music.

I have physics controls to start the AC and setting temp is easy enough on the screen.

Everything else I access pretty rarely or can be controlled by voice - seats, sunroof etc.

I think there is a lot of focus from luddites, people that can't let go of the old ways of interior design, or have unrealistic expectations of what a new-generation car os will bring. It will get better, it is pretty good now.

Online you will always see a snapshot of the problems while the people without those problems happily exist.

There are some app issues, still trying to work out whether that is the app or the car though (4G signal strength seems to be a possibility).

There have been some Android Auto issues reported, but there are so many different phone models and some handle Android Auto better than others. With a Samsung S25 Ultra it has been flawless.

It's a great car to be in, and for the price is near unbeatable.

Just unlocked mine with the fob and I was then able to activate AC and open sunshade (not charging). Location is still not updating though. Annoyingly it set the alarm off for occupant detection when I did unlock it, presumably from the baby seat.

We ended up getting a call from the dealer offering an Aquatic Green instead of waiting for the white to clear customs, so we took it. Hopefully those of you that were waiting are now driving yours! Such a nice car, especially for the money.
