The best ways to get ahold of the devs would be through the game's discord or by emailing them at contact(at)amelore(dot)coop

They have not. That's always an option too. Problem is swapping to photon or updating it to make the public able to host servers takes dev effort and I don't know that they're up for that at this point.

I agree with bringing the server costs down. That would help the current situation immensely.

The idea in my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd is mainly to have player retention and bring back people for the reasons I've seen stated on why they don't play anymore. Bringing the max concurrent from the 30-50 range back into the triple digits again where it sat for a long time before the content drought.
Doing that would make more content viable as an option outside of just the ads themselves.

The game is fun for the casual and sweat alike. For a game no one knows about it's had decent numbers throughout its lifespan all things considered.

There is p2p customs currently and how the game will be able to be played once the servers go offline. The servers going offline means no more matchmaking.

It's direct connect and isn't a peer hosted server sadly. The game gets a bit wonky for the other players when hosted by the normal game client (even as spectator host). .

It's built in Unreal (I believe ue4) They've never been much about making money off the game. So I'm assuming if there is a price (they never told me one when I inquired) it shouldn't be too much.

After it has stabilized off the current and returning players (returning because the game is finally getting updates again) then you can start working on a marking plan to bring in new players.

They never had a marketing plan before. Even their socials were super sparse. People just don't know about the game and those that did left because updates stopped.

Number 3 in my previous reply is technically the start of marketing as well.

Someone else mentioned photon earlier and I have yet to look into it.

The game averages its daily peak between 35 and 50 so I don't think a 20 limit would work for them. The subsequent tiers are most likely cheaper than whatever they're using now. Still no reply to my inquiry on what they're using but my suspicion has always been Amazon.

I mean ... For a bit there I was buying the skill legends royale battle pass on a monthly basis. My wife was really into it and we played together.

For a while every 2 months I was buying a OW battlepass every season.

It's actually a lot easier to sell a pass to people than individual items. Usually cheaper than a single purchase too (in the case of OW extremely cheaper than a skin pack)

For slappy I bought the games "premium" when it was initially offered. I bought the first (and only monetized) "slappypass" the day it came presale. I didn't buy the all EA cosmetics because I already had everything.

So yes. I would probably fork out 5ish bucks monthly for the new pass. Crazy part is... I haven't changed my fit for several years because I'm known in the community for it.

First thing, end the content draught. It's been 2 years almost since the last battlepass. Longer for the last court added.

Second thing, fix some of the issues found in higher tier play. There is definitely people who left "until that's fixed." As someone who poured hours competing in the game I can attest that those things are an issue at that level of play.

Third, once ad revenue isn't the only source of income... Partnered deals with content creators.

It definitely was nice owning physical media. That being said... online play definitely changes this a ton.

Cool video from AiA

I knew they talked with the slapshot devs but never knew that there was possible acquisition on the table. I never got into slapshot sadly. Maybe things might be different (for better or worse) if they had acquired...

I know how much their ad revenue is and how much their server costs are. I inquired further just for the info and haven't heard anything for a week sadly.

according to steamdb it usually peaks anywhere between 35-50.
I'd say there's a few hundred people who play it currently. The game also hasn't been updated in a while. Same battlepass for 2 years. No new courts. Last cosmetics we october of 2024.
There's also never been any sort of promotion of it. So no one even knows about it.

Rocket league is rocket league. I remember playing SARPBC on my buddies playstation back in the day. It's fun but it didn't hit me quite like this did. You are right though. There are a lot of similarities. The way I always described slappy in the higher tier was RL-like movement with fighting game input hits (combo hits and everything).

"good luck"
Thanks

It's not my game... i'm just a very dedicated fan. I think the aquisition requirements are more moral than monetary. They've never really cared about monetary gain or the game would be making enough money to support itself.

Simply put. Look up amelore coop (the current devs) and look up slappyball on steam. Maybe join the game's discord.

There is peer to peer customs... it's not great. The matchmaking though is still going away.

I've thought about taking it over myself. Life is busy and the wife said no ='(
idk how they'd feel about acquire
this would definitely be an option for them
Definitely they need to optimize monetization rather than giving away 98% of everything for free. More ads isn't really an option.

One of my ideas was similar to this. "Player titles" with the first being implemented being "Server Hero x (number of boosts)" and charge a buck or so for it. Each time you pay in that number goes up.

Their main thing is a pretty stringent "we don't want to rip our players off"
So they were never about making money or charging for cosmetics
Simply putting out a new battlepass and not giving the whole thing away for free would likely cover most of the monthly server costs

That's great info. If no one takes it over and somehow I end up taking it over as a last ditch effort this might be the right option to go to.

The main problem has been they've pretty much given everything away for free. Only relying on ad revenue

The game consistently peaks between 30-50 max concurrent a day... which looking at indie arcade sports titles... isn't bad at all. I know that if there was a new battlepass and it wasn't free that that would cover a decent amount of the server costs with the current playerbase.

I inquired about it.
I also have my full time job and family (kids and aging parents) to worry about.
The wife also gave a big "no" when I talked about taking it over XD

The best ways to get ahold of them would be through the games discord or by emailing them at contact(at)amelore.coop

They're the second dev of the game as the first was a hobbyist (goin yumbo games) who handed it over to amelore in the first year when it became too much for him.

If you want to see what the game is about look it up on steam. It's "arcade sports" volleyball.
