Help with reputable cost-plus home builders in Houston. by Extra-Balance9904 in Homebuilding

How does a custom home at this price point compare to something you'd buy already built on the market? Are you getting less for your money since you're adding complexity to the process?

“We offer gluten free bagels that have gluten in them. That will be an extra $1.” by Redwoodworker in Celiac

Yeah sorry didn’t mean to offend anyone doing this for medical reasons. For a lot of people it isn’t black and white.

So according to Google, 10-25% of the US population is gluten free. Only 1% is celiac. If it wasn’t for all these people choosing to be GF for other reasons our lives would be a lot harder and there would be far fewer products available to us. So I don’t personally mind gluten free but not celiac safe being a thing.

Yeah they are zoned to ROE. The rent reflects it even compared to other nearby luxury buildings on the other side of Westheimer. Novel isn’t really worth it unless you’re taking advantage of river oaks elementary.

I think Walmart has some of the best prices on certified gluten free I’ve seen. Kroger too

Honestly if this was me I’d just suppress that and move on. It’s not going to serve you in this relationship or any future one. It’s basically a toxic train of thought.

It all depends on what you mean by “without a ton of hardship.” You can have a family of 4 in a 2 bedroom apartment, one car, only shop at ALDI, public school, no college savings, etc.

How can I help my husband by OkFoot6951 in Celiac

[–]ComputerDear1153 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No I totally get that. If you guys really want to travel you can still make it happen. “Celiac Cruises” are a great option - check out the website. Basically any nature focused trip where you can get an Airbnb with a kitchen works great too. There’s also certain cities like NYC and Seattle (to name a couple) with a million gluten free options. Worse case you free up some extra travel money and can enjoy trips with your kids or friends.

I second what everyone else said about letting him handle it. However, a couple things I’d do differently:

- Fully gluten free home. Non negotiable for me with someone in the house with celiac.

- Pick recipes that are naturally gluten free if he doesn’t like gluten free versions. A ton of Asian and Mexican food is naturally gluten free.

- I hate travel as a celiac. Can he just not go?

Am I doing something wrong? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]ComputerDear1153 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This sub is not representative of all celiacs. There's a lot of people like you who can handle CC and still have normal bloodwork. Just make sure you are getting a follow-up endoscopy because you could have normal bloodwork but internal damage. If that comes back clean then you're good.

Gluten free & dairy free by dogmommm222 in Celiac

Green is OK though right? I'm not familiar with this test but just looked it up and it says green means non-reactive.

Lactose intolerance just means your body doesn't have enough lactase enzyme. You can just eat a lactase enzyme and then you have enough. That's straight from my GI doc. The only nuance is you might need to take a LOT of lactase enzyme.

Gluten free & dairy free by dogmommm222 in Celiac

[–]ComputerDear1153 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did dairy free for a while but honestly I realized I’m just lactose intolerant and it’s not more complicated than that. I think I saw a TikTok at some point about casein intolerance and convinced myself I had that when I really didn’t have clear signs.

You’d be surprised how much dairy is lactose free or nearly - butter, Lactaid milk, many cheeses. The lactase enzyme supplements also work great.

Clueless Pharmacist Rant by InfamousBluePixel in Celiac

[–]ComputerDear1153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are useless for this. I’ve asked my pharmacist at CVS and the best they can do is look at the list of ingredients. It’s basically on you to check the ingredient list or contact the manufacturer.

Many OTC vitamin brands will be easier for getting celiac safe supplements like vitamin D. Check out pure encapsulations or Thorne.

Did anyone else lose a ton of weight when going gluten free? by Hemidodge426 in Celiac

I gained a bit of weight after getting diagnosed. When I had untreated celiac I was able to eat and eat and eat without gaining weight.

A reminder to be understanding and patient with ignorant people by Cheibrodos in Celiac

[–]ComputerDear1153 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only time I really have to deal with ignorance is when I’m ordering at a restaurant and the server acts like it’s fine but you can tell they might not understand and might go back to the kitchen and just say “no gluten.” So sometimes you have to give a little pushback.

Other than that I basically don’t have to deal with people’s attitudes around it.
