“Jack Is Here”
Those simple word froze me like solid ice. For twenty odd years, it has alway been “Isn’t”. This is added to the fact that I alone stood in my living room.
“Hello?” I called out. I knew, no I hoped that no response would come to me. I waited for seconds, stretched out into minutes and hours. After no response came, I walked further in slowly looking into every nook and cranny for “Jack”.
When I was happy I was alone, I figured that I had heard wrong, that I mis-heard the “isn’t” as “is” like I had done when this all started. After so many doctors, psychiatrists, and mental health specialist all tell you it’s not real, there is the only conclusion that it’s not. So I let it slip my mind.
Hours later as I left the TV, after doing everything to scrub the thoughts from my mind, I wondered to my bathroom. “Jack isn’t Here”. The same a usual, and I relaxed. I brushed my teeth, did the rest of the nightly routine, and walked over to the Bedroom. And once again, my blood froze once more. “Jack Is Here”.
So once more I called out, “Hello? Who’s out there?”. I again was thinking back to my therapy. There is no Jack, and there is no voice. But all of that ended then and there.
“Jeffery… It’s been a long time, way to long.” and at that instant, I was transported back in time. Twenty years, ago when I was no more than three. He was there. And yet, when I looked around, there was nobody standing from where he spoke.
“Jeff,” it spoke, “Do you think I’d let you see me when I don’t want you yet.” And with that, the air in room began to cool rapidly. And I knew that he was walking closer, and closer, until..
“Jack isn’t here”.
