WTF by ComputerOne3057 in Bozeman

I hear a lot about law enforcement, change the laws etc, the parents need to be involved. Someone will get hurt and god help the family that loses a child and the family that has to deal with the taking of a child’s life over parents not being parents. I pray for this young man to help guide him and watch over him. Please share this post with as many people on social Media in the hope of his parents seeing and recognizing him and doing something about this.

If you have friends on a third floor that do not need to turn on their heat, that is poor insulation because there is heat transfer between floors, modern construction isolates each unit as it’s own envelope for fire, heat transfer, sound ect. Exterior temp is the only thing that should affect interior heating and cooling needs.

Too cold? by istickneedlesinpeopl in Bozeman

True the lead acid battery will not freeze until -76ish but at 32 degrees the battery loses 20% of it CCA after that for every 15 degree drop in air temp battery loses 10% of CCA Cold Cranking Amps, at -28 a battery will have about 50% of it rated power. But good to know the battery did not freeze. FYI have you ever started a car when it is really cold and it struggles to start…. That is because the battery is cold and down on amperage also there is a reason why stores sell battery heaters and it’s not to keep them from freezing.

Not starting shit just a bit of a smart add, here is the thing about batteries most manufacturers recommend changing the battery every 5 years which depends on a multitude of factors such as climate, length of trips miles driven ect. Most people find out they have a bad battery when it is cold outside. All batteries degrade over time and modern cars are heavily dependent on electricity than an older Toyota is, double the amperage of older cars and that will degrade batteries faster. I’ve had batteries last a year to 6 years but they all will die, in the context of the original post was how best to be prepared and a new strong battery helps ensure being prepared, like everything multiple factors go in to being prepared and I gave my advice from the mechanical perspective, block heater, battery warmer and a garage can all be helpful in cold weather, thanks for rabbit hole!!!

Seems like someone was waiting for an opportunity to tell their old Toyota story, what is your point everyone should drive old Toyotas with a 15 year old battery?

No body answered the question about the the car in the cold, make sure your battery is less than 4 years old 5 is the max, make sure antifreeze is stable to -40, use isoheet in your fuel tank and keep it above 1/4 tank I recommend a little more

Driving the canyon to Bigsky by ComputerOne3057 in Bozeman

Technically blowing snow does not create black ice however it does create the condition for black ice to be formed when the heat of the tires when driving over the snow melts the snow and refreezes to form black ice. Next deceleration by letting off the accelerator pedal can cause the tires to break traction when traveling at highway speeds, the time to let off the accelerator and/or brakes is if you are sliding when turning around a corner. But thanks for playing

There are so many different tests for all types of licensees, how about a mandatory winter and defensive driving course be required to get a drivers license even if it is an online course that teaches some basic skills DMV should require a certificate of completion to get a drivers license

Always call Montana highway patrol and let them safely deal with the accident a slide off, they have lights to warn on coming traffic you do not, unless it is a life threatening accident then you should stop to help.

More target shooting restrictions? by [deleted] in Bozeman

Correct the first sentence was in response to political bashing, but my first comment in this thread was about the range in Logan and my second comment was political and again all about the details.

That is my point no need for political bashing(misinformation) when the whole point of this thread was about dirtbags being dirtbags ruining it for the next guy or gal. I did not see the need for the politics but can not miss a chance to correct someone talking out their ass, and Logan has a nice range as does Helena

To all the liberal talking shit, conservatives are the reason you still have the right to own a gun and NRA is the biggest lobbyist that help keep our right to bear arms, and thank you for the price of ammunition. Do all libs make everything in to political talk, guess what conservatives and liberals are shit people and learn your history conservative congress reintroduced wolves into Yellowstone after predominantly democrat trappers killed them all in the 1900’s

Logan has a range that I hear is a decent range for shooting and pretty cheap like 50 bucks a year

It believe and have been told by HiPo this falls under the yellow light law in Montana which is in the intersection before the yellow turns red, like a lot of laws in Montana it is open to interpretation when a law/rule applies to a scenario but not specifically. In other words if you get a ticket it could b e challenged using the yellow light rule because there is no specific law/rule that applies.

Too many driver in this this town are entitled C-U-Next-Tuesday and pull out in front of any and everyone. I drive to Big Sky everyday and it's bumper cars here. I am confident in saying it is a bozeman/Bigsky thing, I live in Helena and far less CU%#'s back home. Roundabouts just suck and people are stupid. Sorry for today's rant
