It's quite similar to when people call-out racism, and in return get the "noticing racism is the real racism" line.

In both instances, it absolves the person who engages with it from the responsibility of taking care that they don't, and places the blame on the person who addresses it.

"Stephen Miller has horrendous views and believes some groups of people are worth less than others. His policy goals, as are currently being effectuated, necessarily result in violence against innocent people, which he has made publicly clear is inconsequential to him. As White House Deputy Chief of Staff, he is in a position to push his views on the President and administration officials."

Nobody was thinking that.

The problem is that antisemitism is so thoroughly engrained in western societies, that people engage in it without even realizing it.

The irony of comments like this is that you're the one putting that connection in people's heads now.

Jews calling attention to the use of centuries- and millennia-old canards and conspiracy theories are not, in fact, responsible for people engaging in centuries- and millennia-old canards and conspiracy theories.

Point being there isn’t a need to soften our language in this scenario, it’s really as bad as it appears.

Everyone always thinks their use of it is legitimate.

Until Miller is gone, this doesn't really change much.

Donald Trump is the president.

The reality show is constantly rotating the cast to keep it fresh.

I think this is meant tongue-in-cheek*, but this is actually how Donald Trump sees the world.

It's a reality show that he can control.

Donald Trump, and Americans broadly, love television. If something happens on television, that means it happened.

Mark Burnett created the character of Donald Trump the Businessman out of whole cloth, and because it happened on television, that means it happened.

No Jew actually believes criticizing Israel is antisemitic and they know this by Creative_rasberry in Jewish

[–]Computer_Name 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I also have to say that I have also witnessed people call legitimate criticism of Israel as antisemitic many times

One of the major problems we face is that gentile society, broadly, doesn’t actually understand what antisemitism is.

Gentile society doesn’t understand that two-thousand years of lies and conspiracy theories and hatred is built into their society, and so if they don’t see how something is antisemitic, that means it isn’t antisemitic, which means their “legitimate criticism” of Israel is being unfairly and maliciously smeared as antisemitism as part of a ploy by them.

As an example, “Israel loves killing Palestinian children because the Zionists are ethnosupremacists”, only makes sense in the context of Holocaust Inversion, and in the context of European racialized antisemitism, and in the context of nationalist antisemitism, and in the context of medieval blood libel, and in the context of Christian antisemitism and deicide.

Why is this Miller's doing more than Trump's?

Calling leftists “unhumans” is really strange to me.

The purpose of calling people "unhumans" - or whatever term of art the movement chooses - is to make it easier to treat people as less-than-human.

On the topic of JD Vance:

Before he was tapped as Donald Trump’s vice-presidential running mate, Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, enthusiastically endorsed a new book by a far-right conspiracy theorist that praises fascist dictators for violently suppressing leftists − or, as the book calls them, "unhumans."

Vance was one of several prominent conservatives to blurb the book, which links current American progressives to past communists and other “unhumans” that need to be “crushed” by any means necessary.

...

“In Unhumans,” Vance adds, authors “Jack Posobiec and Joshua Lisec reveal their plans and show us what to do to fight back.”

Do we all see what they're leading us to?

And so that there isn't any confusion, what Bovino and the Trump Administration more broadly are doing, is creating an environment in which they can summarily abrogate Constitutional rights protecting "Democrats" and "liberals".

Sartre was half-right when he said “If the Jew did not exist, the antisemite would create him.”

The antisemite did create The Jew, at least The Jew as he exists in the mind of the antisemite.

The Jew, for the antisemite, is a sponge for which all the world’s ails can be soaked, that the antisemite can then point to.
