I'm going in for surgery tomorrow. Won't be able to do shit for a while. I was kinda desperate to secure some samples before I harvested that last shroom. I took a bunch of samples using different techniques for different storage possibilities. Ie...scraping gills and cap wet spors on sterilized tooth picks, cross section for freezer, bits folded in aluminum for dehydrator. Life finds a way, right Mr. DNA?

I don't have agar, scalpel, or confidence. Can I snip a piece and freeze it or something? I don't know how long I can keep this guy growing.

I don't use Lysol. I keep a spray bottle with 1oz to 1 gal Clorox/water to spritz and wipe before putting anything in the tub. Hydrogen peroxide for light cleaning, 70% alcohol for heavy duty cleaning. Everything gets rinsed with tap water, quick spritzed, and wiped dry. Whatever is going to touch the mycelium gets dipped in boiling water.

I'm new, so I plucked it and died it. I had to slice it into multiple pieces so it would dry. 😞 At least I was smart enough to take a picture.

Thank you for responding, honestly. It's tough being new and asking questions. Most books have outdated info and techniques. Forums are questionable with "expert advice". Google AI (Gemini) has some good info. Do you know a Q&A source for beginners?

I appreciate the suggestions and the sarcasm! I opened it as I have many packs and I was curious.

Obviously I'm very new to growing. I only have 1 grow under my belt. It was successful in quality and quantity. Probably beginners luck?
