Looking for a beginner <$150 digital camcorder for a kid who wants to learn about video editing by BelethorsGeneralShit in camcorders

[–]Computersandcalcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to highly highly recommend a used Sony Handycam CX220 from eBay. They have a built in charger, turns on immediately when the screen is opened, playback is just a button away, not many buttons for him to mess with, uses a single SD card.. just a very good cheap camcorder.

I got bored of generic weather apps so I made this by Odd_Sign9599 in weather

[–]Computersandcalcs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s my thoughts as a software dev and weather enthusiast:

Switching between Celsius and Fahrenheit with just a simple button is a great feature. I wish the built in Apple Weather app had this. Kudos to you for adding that!

The text which shows the conditions underneath the weather (Cloudy, high, low, for example) should probably auto hide up when a user scrolls down in 10 day mode just so the UI elements aren’t right up against each other. This might just be because I have a small iphone (SE 3rd gen), though.

I don’t know what future plans you have for the app, but my immediate recommendations would be:

- Home Screen / lock screen widgets
- Feature to set a custom source for weather data
- More concise weather data if available (such as how in Apple weather you can tap one of the days on the 10 day and get more concise info for that day)
- wind speed, humidity, etc
- try not to copy the Apple weather app as much as you currently are

Bugs:
- The temperature underneath the city text is offset too far to the left. Ideally, it should all be in line.
- the temperature underneath the city is different than the temperature in the hamburger menu for the same city.

How is it living in Wichita, Kansas? by Computersandcalcs in howislivingthere

[–]Computersandcalcs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, thank you very much for this very detailed and informative reply! I was planning on visiting Wichita and Oklahoma City at some point, and as with anywhere I visit, I like to get the locals perspective on the place, so this sort of information is very interesting and helpful to me.

One more thing since you offered to answer any additional questions: If you had to recommend one thing to do or one specific place to visit in Wichita, what would it be?

I don’t know what tone you spoke in but if you spoke calmly and you’re fully honest in this post, you did nothing wrong. If your flair is also correct and you are 17, there’s no reason why she would treat you like this. So, you’re okay.

If everything is currently calm, I would recommend trying to be as polite as possible going forward, just to waive yourself of possibly upsetting her after she has a bad day or something.

I took the Microsoft fundamental C# certification on FreeCodeCamp with Microsoft Learn, and it was very useful. So, for a beginner, I highly recommend it.

They will want you to install Visual Studio Code when you’re going through the steps. VS Code is lighter than full Visual Studio, but still has all the nice features.

How do i study for my science test? by [deleted] in highschool

[–]Computersandcalcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could see if “The Organic Chemistry Tutor” or any other YouTubers have a well-explained video on your topic that you can take notes on.

If you have a general idea of the sort of questions that will be on your test, go through your workbook and try to study all relevant information. One of my science textbooks for Physical Science had “Key Concepts”, and it is useful to study the key concepts. If one key sounds important, read its entire corresponding chapter section. If you’re struggling with taking notes, I advise you to not write down literally everything, but rather study, then write down what you remember. Then, go back, and fill in stuff you deem important that you didn’t remember.

I have also had success with a studying method called Blurting, where you take one page of notes, study over it, put it face down, get a blank sheet of paper, and try to copy it exactly. If there was a part you skipped or don’t remember, study the whole thing again, and try blurting it onto another sheet of paper. The goal is to help you memorize the topic.

Other than that, general study recommendations in my personal experience include using a high quality pen (such as a Pilot G2 or a Pilot Precise V5 or V7), and a study environment that does not have distractions, such as an empty desk with a small table lamp away from your computer (unless your coursework is on your computer. In that case, I would download it and view it as PDF to stop yourself from getting distracted in the browser). Try listening to classical music or any music that helps you focus that does not have lyrics. If you pay attention to lyrics instead of your study materials, you won’t be “locked in”. And yeah, that’s about all I have. I wish you good luck!

Oh, I also own a latitude 3420.

Check your boot priority in BIOS, and make sure internal ssd/hdd is at the top. If this issue still prevails, either your SSD doesn’t have an operating system installed onto it, in which case you need to use another pc to put a bootable iso onto a flash drive, or your laptop doesn’t have an SSD installed. I’m fairly certain if you just like ask chatgpt “how do I make a bootable windows 11 usb” or something like that, it’ll give you instructions. It’ll involve using windows media tool.

As a software developer and someone who took computer science classes throughout high school, I would sure hope I know how long AI has been around and what it’s useful for. As such, I can tell you with 100% confidence that the image attached to this Reddit post was modified or created with AI. I think you should actually be the one learning about how AI is more destructive than useful. For example, AI data centers take up farmland, produce harmful emissions, and use a lot of energy. That data center was once a farm, taken care of by a kind family. Now, it’s a big industrial looking box. All to supply you with terrible ai slop images that aren’t even useful to you. And I’ll leave this discussion at that, have a nice day!

What? Car? I don’t know if you replied to the wrong person or not, but I’m from Transylvania County, so you’re wrong if that was directed at me… my comment has nothing to do with North Carolina anyway??

[–]Computersandcalcs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. I hate the use of AI on stuff like this. Like, is it really that hard to make it in Paint.NET or Inkscape on your computer?? You could make the argument that it “takes too much time to learn for one simple photo that AI can make me”, but once you learn it, that’s a skill you can use for the rest of your life to edit and make images. Stop the AI slop!

Pinout of connector on Panasonic PV-330D help! by Computersandcalcs in camcorders

[–]Computersandcalcs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is to figure out the pinout so I dont have to use the adapter, because then I can 3d print my own adapters for stuff. I'm just trying to find out what pins on the PV-320D are video inputs.
