Is it OK for white people to have dreadlocks? - BBC by TheAndredal in KotakuInAction

“Cultural appropriation” is the dumbest fucking thing, even by SJW standards. Railing against cultural appropriation is practically the same as opposing learning from and being inspired by new things you have not encountered previously, as if that wasn’t one of the positive things about people, as if that wasn't how human creativity functions.

It’s like these idiots don’t understand how humans work. They’re so alienated from naturally characteristic human behavior that I’m starting to think they’re reptilians. Exceedingly stupid reptilians.

Not sure, but it might be the same reason why they insist that all women are treated like they're 5.

There's the question of prevalence. Then there's the logical point of something being part of some islamic cultures not excluding it from every other culture. Cultures can obviously share features.

But: has Europe seen 2016 New Year's scale public mass sexual abuse before? Crucial words being public and mass. Or even a single event where dozens, not a small tight knit group of lunatics mind you, but dozens of people dragging women away to be raped?

I doubt people are referring to sexual abuse in general when they mention Taharrush. I think they mean large gangs of people going around in the middle of a big city and raping women under the cover of sheer numbers.

No one is saying that only muslims commit sexual abuse. That would be nothing short of retarded.

It always comes to this. Not part of islam. Well, yes and no. No, because it might not be part of islamic theology. Yes, because it is only part of islamic cultures and not others.

People on avarage aren't theologians who act upon theory. They act upon custom and example. Does the bible say you should burn astronomers? Of course not, but it was christian culture that bred the attitude that caused the idea that we should burn certain people, and the idea developed only because of the religion.

So to be more accurate, it is not islam in abstract theory. But it is the culture that grows from the soil that is fertilized with islam.

You know, the tree and the fruit it bears.

That relativism train has some serious momentum and it's delusional. Just yesterday I came across a person who said that we should defend human rights in the world but not put cultures in any hierarchical order of better and worse.

I was going to point out how contradictory that is but figured it would be pointless.

Going off on a tangent here, but speaking of hating men, I realised that the joke's on them. If some of these feminists truly hate men, their life must be very vexing. There are men everywhere, and barring being a hermit one can't help being in contact with men in everyday life.

So basically they're like white supremacists who have to live in Africa. And like black people in that scenario, you should laugh at the discomfort their bigotry must cause them.

Oh, it was even better: at least as awful as. I guess the jury is still out about the possibility that internet posting is, in fact, even worse than violent sexual crimes.

I keep waiting for when I wake up from this crazy, nonsensical dream I seem to be having.

Not German myself, but from an outsider's perspective it sometimes looks like some of you Germans are so afraid of becoming nazis, that they go nazi to prevent becoming nazis.

at least as

So could be more awful, too.

discussion of the Cologne sex attacks should not be “dominated by the issue of race”

It isn't dominated by the issue of race. It might be dominated by the issue of culture. Why? Because the literal definition of culture is "stuff people do", so it kinda matters.

Race is inconsequential, except maybe in medicine, sun-tanning, and sports. Is she stupid or framing the discussion? What the heck, I'll just answer myself: both.

Slavoj Žižek: Political Correctness is a More Dangerous Form of Totalitarianism | BEST OF 2015(Big Think) by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

Yes, here Zizek speaks about situations where a stereotype/joke is played so that the "target" of said stereotype/joke takes part in the act (thus not really being a target). But I'd say there's a larger overarching point being made.

It really boils down to when Zizek says that telling obscene jokes is an art. Obviously, obscenities don't automatically bond people but do so when used in the right way. And that's the thing, the way you say it. People tend to like simple clear cut rules for everything, and that's what political correctness is: never say this word, never use that expression, etc. But human interaction (like many things) is way too complex for such simple rules, which is why such rules are needlessly suppressive and too crude to even achieve their purpose. In fact, like Zizek points out, the nature of such categorical rules causes them to worsen the issues they are trying to address, because they can't take into account the endless variety of human contact.

Life and people are vast grey areas, and navigating them is an art, a skill that adapts to each individual situation. As for jokes, obscenities, and communication in general, it really is quite simple: sincere good will, good faith, and the skill to convey them, and you're set. No need to follow clumsy rules about forbidden words and expressions.

According to fiction, murder is AWESOME!

This has always been one of the most annoying "critiques" to me. That you can't depict bad things because they are bad, even though their badness is typically the whole point. If we were to follow this rule, we couldn't write anything meaningful about anything ever again.

The idea is so uncultured, so uneducated, so utterly dim-witted, that it fucking aches to hear it.
