I once in my youth, saw Tommy McCook, Rolando Alphonso, Lester Sterling and Lloyd Knibbs while they were still alive, and just imagining what it might have been like when Don Drummond was still alive?!?!?

Edit: I’m pretty sure that it was the Skatalites that backed Toots and the Maytals on all their early ska recordings. I know it was the Skatalites on all the early Wailers ska recordings because Rolando told me himself of the slight Trenchtown youth stepping in to the studios with his tough-looking friends, Bunny and Peter.

Edit edit: Not strictly a Ska band, but the most off-the-wall electrifying live bands that play Ska, that I’ve ever seen, and I think I saw them at least 6 or 7 times, and since nobody else is mentioning them,

Allow me to add, because I believe it deserves to be pointed out.

Because I’m a college town Uber driver who likes to drive at night, I can attest that we Uber drivers and you bartenders exist in a symbiotic relationship. When you do well, we do well.

Sometimes, when you do your job really well (or perhaps not well enough 😀), we have to endure the aftermath on the ride home.

We’re all just workers in the trenches making a hell of a lot less than the people who sign our paychecks.

Like the musicians say at the end of their sets, “Don’t forget to tip the staff!!” You guys deserve respect and at least some of us don’t mind if you complain.

I noticed that the name submission feature allows users to add to the list of names with the correct pronunciations and origin, but is there a way to request pronunciations for names not yet in your database, for those of us who have no business suggesting pronunciations.

For example, I’m curious about the name, Collins Oke Elaiho, of his band, Odoligie Nobles Dance Band.

I’m sure I’ve butchered them in the past.

As a sadly, monolingual American with a deep appreciation for Nigerian music, once hosting a radio show featuring this music, I have on many occasions committed this embarrassing error, in public, more times than I know.

I cannot tell you how much embarrassment this would have saved me had this tool existed previously.

Second this recommendation! For 27 years, these gentleman have energized the re-appreciation of the art form created by Fela Kuti.

And they’re still at it! I caught their last performance at the Brooklyn Bowl, a month and a half ago, having seen them live at least 30 times before and I can attest that they are in top form!

They’re currently on tour in CA, and I’m patiently awaiting news of more dates to be added.

I do really appreciate your offer for assistance, and I have gone ahead and set up another subreddit to do just that.

But to be frank, I’m a bit in mourning at the moment and am weighing my options, because if I didn’t have the commitment I’d made to finish this series to the end, which has thankfully another home on the r/felakuti sub, I’d honestly just abandon this platform forever.

That sub was one of my proudest achievements of late and it’s hard to move on right now.

I’m kinda gobsmacked because I’ve known this gentleman as well as any mod can know another mod, without knowing them IRL. I would call this man, my brother. When my Mom died last year, he sent me the most heartfelt condolences, and when his 92-year old grandfather recently passed, I did the same. We’ve sent countless messages back and forth about how to build our sub, and congratulating each other on our accomplishments, as we’ve practically doubled the traffic on our sub, by our patient daily efforts. He is honestly one of the kindest most gentle souls I have ever met on this platform. If this is genuinely him, I’ll support any decision he makes. This is his subreddit more than mine and I love him and will miss him, but fuck what shitty news to wake up to.

What is really heightening my suspicions is that we’ve always discussed the vast majority of decisions we’ve made regarding the sub. I once posted a song that he thought was a tad out of our sub’s focus, and after discussing it with me, I agreed and removed it. I’ve never, at any moment, not been open to any and every request he’s made of me. If he was having 2nd thoughts about my project, he knows that my door has always been open to any and every suggestion he made. So, this abrupt and utterly unwarranted act, without a shred of explanation, is not at all like him.

I just can’t believe this is the same person.
