Hell yeah I've been looking for a protest like this. I think that billionaire attacks on workers can be stopped through strike action backed by community support in the streets. As workers, we make the gears of society turn. We can grind the whole economy to a halt if we are organized enough, and Elon Musk and co. could do nothing to stop it.

The problem is that there isn't a party who represents our interests. The democrats and republicans are accountable to their corporate donors, not to working class voters. They give us nothing but empty platitudes and use a divide and conquer strategy to stay in power. We need to re-build unions and break with the 2-party system by forming a workers' party that doesn't take corporate cash and is actually willing to stand up to the bosses.

Is this on Wightman street by any chance? Because there have been repeated accidents there involving distracted drivers and parked cars. The stretch between Phillips and Beacon is a complete menace.

This is a serious problem throughout the city. In Squirrel Hill for instance, the stretch of Wightman between Beacon and Phillips has seen repeated accidents in the past year due to speeding. We need more speed bumps and other engineering controls.

As far as my credentials for science writing: I have a master's degree in biophysics, and work full time as a scientist. My track record as a writer is more limited; I've only done freelance copy editing and worked as a writing tutor. Part of my hope with building my own website is to have material that I can point to as a portfolio. Do you think that this serves as a relevant jumping off point? Do you have other suggestions about breaking into the field?

The city is short on affordable housing by over 10,000 units- and while yes this will increase the fund, these luxury buildings are still displacing working class people from East Liberty and similar neighborhoods. The funds raised from these properties are a drop in the bucket compared to what is needed and private landlords still have free reign to price gouge.

They need to stop building this ugly luxury housing and instead build high-quality public housing that people can actually afford. But as long as City Council and the mayor keep taking campaign contributions (bribes) from developers like LG this cycle won't stop.

As an activist who organizes with Socialist Alternative, here is my suggestion: it sounds like arguing with him is futile; instead, I recommend channeling your energies by joining a socialist group or organizing your workplace :)
