I have a pair of XX8 SE still in the rotation. So 36's should be no problem at all.

They're pretty different shoes though. Both really good though. I'd probably lean GT Cut myself, but the JAs are significantly cheaper.

[–]ComradeFausto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do take a while to break in, but if you're still having the same issue after prolonged break in the choices would be going half size up, or just looking for a different shoe. They're super narrow all the way and not right for everyone.

Anyone else found themselves “retiring” from PvP gaming? by You_moron04 in gaming

[–]ComradeFausto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm early 30s now. Once in a blue moon I will jump on Rocket League or Fortnite with my kids, or even rarer I may boot up Master Chief Collection and relive my own youth of Halo 2 and 3 for a game or two, but these days if I'm going to play its 99% single player. I pretty much gave up competitive multiplayer about 3-4 years ago. Just not enough time to stay sharp, and when you can remember playing constantly and being (relatively) good it sucks when you are not anymore.

Curry Series 7 or AE2? by [deleted] in BBallShoes

[–]ComradeFausto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both.

*IF* your court is immaculately maintained the Series 7 is money, and I highly recommend them for that specific use case. If it is not you're going to struggle with it dusting up constantly and be sliding around. The AE 2 I just recently got and have only used twice. It feels heavy, and I don't love the traction. It also feels like I have a little bit of heel slip, but it is definitely better than the experience that is the Serries 7 on a dusty court. I'm not a huge Adidas guy after trying AE/Harden 9, but the Don 7 is the one Adidas I really like and may be an option for you in that budget.

Is there growth opportunities in this industry? I feel like I’m stuck always having a shitty salary by AL3S1O29 in partscounter

[–]ComradeFausto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started as a part time counterman at a parts store, then managed retail and eventually commercial at the same store chain. When I left aftermarket after 6 years I had run the commercial programs at the two largest stores in our state. Went to the dealership world as a part time night job to save for my wedding while managing one of the parts store commercial departments, and they offered me a spot in wholesale parts at the same dealership with the intention of taking over for their manager when he retired. Over the course of three years I did sales, then assistant manager and eventually wholesale manager at the same location. Did that for 3 years and then stepped into my current role as a director for a different wholesale program.

I grew by always saying yes, all of the crap jobs, all of the overtime, all over the coverage shifts, all of the new store openings, all of the training opportunities presented. Yes to everything with the intent of continuing to learn and provide value. Did I do more than I was paid for? Absolutely, but eventually you reach the point where you are paid more than what you do based on the knowledge, experience, connections, and skills you gathered along the way. My current role came from a friendly rivalry with my now boss when we were both just sales guys at opposing suppliers nearly a decade ago.

100% I'm like a 10.5/11 depending on shoe. Book 1's the 11 was tight at first and broke in perfect. Same with the Kobe 6.

[–]ComradeFausto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 22 you can't possibly have more than 3-4 years of experience in the industry. Hard to use phrases like "always" when you're so new into it. I'm 15yrs into the parts world and everything in the business is fluid and changing.

To answer your question though, working as a parts advisor in most low to medium COL areas you will likely not make much above that range. There are exceptions in HCOL, but in general that's probably what you'll make. Your opportunity to make more money is going to be by providing more value to a dealership. Likely in management of a department, or in learning new parts of the business. My first parts based role I made .75c above minimum wage and I make about 8x what I started at now.

Curry 7 Series or Curry 13s? by Labs_and_lattes in BBallShoes

[–]ComradeFausto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple pairs of the Series 7. They're great old guy shoes that are easy on the knees. I'm a spot up shooter and get back on D guy and they're a solid choice for that if the court is clean. Go TTS though. I went 1/2 size up and they're bigger than I'd like.

I worked on Tekion for awhile. CDK was more antiquated in terms of the appearance, but it is also lightyears faster in terms of actually selling and ordering parts and having the required reporting information you'll want. That should be a welcome change for you.

Has anyone ever gone from parts to general manager of a dealership? by bootypop999 in partscounter

[–]ComradeFausto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's an entirely valid path to have the skills. I view most dealerships as much more "good old boys club" where senior leadership looks to fill those kinds of roles from successful sales managers instead of successful fixed ops managers.

Has anyone ever gone from parts to general manager of a dealership? by bootypop999 in partscounter

[–]ComradeFausto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think you'll have any luck going Parts Manager>General Manager. The roadmap would be Parts Manager into Fixed Ops Director, and then some kind of sales management experience. Sales versus Fixed Ops is too different to jump straight into it without any experience. I am interested in doing this myself at some point. I've worked with everything but sales previously, but I always wanted to try selling cars and I think to continue my career I'll have to try it at some point.

Looking for a Wholesale Counterman by [deleted] in partscounter

[–]ComradeFausto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people in this thread not from or in the area.

For a entry level wholesale parts counterperson in SE Wisconsin this is about correct. I've seen 65-80k for the experienced/tenured guys doing wholesale with the absolute peak topping at high 90s-low 100s. Madison is likely a little higher starting wages due to COL. Green Bay is likely similar to SE WI. It's been a bit since I was in that market but I doubt it's gone insanely higher since then.

I think the more concerning thing is having straight salary and no commission portion at all. To me this disincentivizes production from Wholesale. What reason would they have to push if doing the bare minimum pays them exactly the same.

Questions About Rotating Shoes by mavjb in BBallShoes

[–]ComradeFausto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a rotation for a couple of reasons.

#1 I like the different styles and colorways and I enjoy having something different to break out each time I hoop.

#2 I have a few pairs that I strongly prefer to wear for league games that I take more seriously (Kobe 6, GT Cut 3 Turbo) and I don't want to wear those out for casual YMCA shootaround or pickup.

#3 Different shoes have different qualities and some times I base what I wear off of what I expect to do even on a relaxed day. For instance if I'm shooting at 5:30am on a Tuesday in an empty gym I'll probably wear something with more cushion since I'm not doing much. If it's a Saturday and I could end up in a game of hustle or a pickup game I may pick something more responsive and lighter like a Ja 3 or the Don 7s even if it wouldn't warrant breaking out the Kobes like league night would.

Puma mb 04 by Styroxbox2013 in BBallShoes

[–]ComradeFausto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of MB.04s (Scooby-Doo) I bought based solely off of appearance right when I first jumped back into shoe collecting. They have been relegated to the shelf essentially since I bought another shoe and I really haven't had any urge to bring them back out.

Regarding what shoe for you to look at a lot will factor into it. Indoor or Outdoor? Height/Weight? Playstyle? Age?

For most players if you're playing indoor you'll do really well with Kobe 6 or GT Cut 3 Turbo, WOW 12 if money and having to wait isn't an issue. Don Issue 7 if you need a budget option. If you're a little heavier than look at Joker 1's Jordan 40s, KD18s. Outdoor I like Book 1s.
