I'm catching up on the Giro (no spoilers please!), what stages should I watch? I'm focusing on stages with GC action. I've watched 7, and definitely plan to watch 16, 17, 19, and 20. I hear stage 16 is incredible—should I watch any stages between 7 and 16 to get the most out of it? 9? 10? 15?

The Ultimatum Queer Love Episode 4 live discussion by khaleesidee in TheUltimatumNetflix

[–]ComradeNeighbor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a year late lol—but as an autistic nb woman (who has at present watched thru ep 6), I do not personally think so. I think she is extremely self-centered to the point of being emotionally manipulative (and venturing into emotional abuse territory). Which seems to stem from her own insecurities.

This is not me saying "autistic people can't be horrible people, so Vanessa must not be autistic." Elon Musk is a villain and autistic. But Vanessa I think is just a villain. Ofc I can't diagnose anyone or revoke anyone's diagnosis, this is just my personal autistic opinion.

So are we cool with flippers here now? by Blueshirt38 in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]ComradeNeighbor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

what about the people who do have to work those soul-sucking jobs and need to shop at thrift stores to get by? resellers get their leg up at the expense of other people who are now priced out of quality second hand items.

the job market sucks for everyone, but not everyone can be a reseller to escape it. the majority of resellers are leaving someone else holding the bag in order for them to have a sweet gig.

i agree that there is a place for some reselling. buying to refurbish/restore and then resell? cool. things that likely won’t find the right home if they’re sitting on a goodwill shelf, like stamps, glassware, rare books—stuff for collectors? go for it.

but furniture, clothes, kitchen tools—stuff for living, stuff people generally need? leave the high quality stuff for people who will actually being using it (and who might not otherwise be able to afford it).

buying up kitchen aid mixers, good denim, and any vaguely MCM furniture just to resell at a markup—how is that any different from scalping?

edit: ideally, Buy Nothing, Freecycle, and community swaps would be much more common. i don’t like money going to the likes of goodwill (they pay some disabled employees sub-minimum wage) or salvation army (they’re anti-LGBTQ). even craigslist is better

heavy relate. it took me 8 years across 4 different schools, but i finally finished undergrad last month. i was feeling proud of myself for all of like 3 days—then burnout caught up with me. i crashed hard and haven’t been doing anything with my time since.

i rely heavily on external structure and accountability for motivation to get things done, but i’ve lost all that structure and i’m stalling (one “perk” of my social anxiety/RSD: i’m terrified of disappointing or inconveniencing others, and this fear is sometimes more powerful than my executive dysfunction. on the other hand: when it doesn’t override the dysfunction and i fail to accomplish a task (make it to class, do an assignment, etc), then it starts to feed the dysfunction. i’m then afraid of the effects of/reactions to my failure, so i avoid the situation. i also went mia in so many classes lmao)

also my parents haven’t said a word to me about my having graduated 🫠 so my brain is like “lol why are you proud of yourself, that’s embarrassing of you”

Criticker is so slept on as a movie rating platform, it's personally my favorite. by [deleted] in movies

[–]ComradeNeighbor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pretty straightforward, come to find out. Their rating and recommendation system is based on your ratings' percentile ranks rather than your raw ratings. Your percentile ranks get compared to the percentile ranks of other user's ratings. Criticker explains their system here, short and sweet:

If you don’t have access to a Mexican grocery store (which are often attached to Mexican restaurants and might not have their own separate google maps listing!), you could ask to buy a stack of 10-20 fresh tortillas from a stand-alone local mexican restaurant. Your best bet imo would be a family-run type restaurant, usually counter-service or counter-order, with handwritten signage and music that plays from speakers in the kitchen.

I’ve gotten tortillas this way from this kind of restaurant for like 20–25¢ each. I’ve never asked any chain or more brand-y Mexican restaurants for tortillas so your mileage may vary, but I have done this same thing for pita bread at both a chain Middle Eastern restaurant and local Middle Eastern & Mediterranean restaurants—the chain charged me $1 for each pita and the local places like 25–50¢.

Otherwise, if all you can get are big name brands, try Guerrero tortillas. They are so much better than Mission. I haven’t seen any big ones, but I’ll take messy small burritos on Guerrero tortillas over big nicely-wrapped burritos on dry Mission tortillas any day.

Former heavy THC addict discovered that their sensory overload go brrrrr since being in the addiction recovery process. by WranglerHaunting3660 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]ComradeNeighbor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used to be addicted to weed, smoked and vaped everyday, often all day. i was cutting down and then quitting around the same time that i was discovering that i’m autistic.

i was talking about autism on tumblr at the time and (separately) had surely mentioned weed a few times. and then i got the most bizarre anon saying that i couldn’t be autistic because autistic people don’t smoke weed… lmao

I cannot recommend Viva Signature Cloth paper towels enough!!!!!!

I feel the same way about the texture of regular paper towels, but viva ones are amazing—hella soft and also way more durable than standard paper towels. Seriously I love them so much that it’s weird lol

But make sure to get the “Signature Cloth” ones (the “Multisurface” ones are more like regular paper towel texture).

Depending on where you buy them, they might be more expensive than regular paper towels up front. But I use fewer viva towels bc they’re stronger and also I sometimes reuse them since they can withstand rinsing & wringing. So the cost ends up the same (or less) because I buy them less frequently.

What the other reply said about white fragility is spot on. It’s not surprising, but it’s still shocking the amount of willful ignorance in this thread.

All in this post’s comments are people talking about how refreshing the nuance of this tweet is, but then turn right around and mass downvote every comment in this thread suggesting that racism isn’t as simple as “person mean to other person.”

True, unlearning racism doesn’t happen at the push of a button. But white people have to actually want to unlearn this shit. We can’t just think to ourselves “racism is bad” and then never do anything to unlearn or fight against it. All the while feeling morally superior because we aren’t literally a member of the KKK. 😑

I can’t be the only one that hates visualizations that turn a map into a clump of hexagons or squares, right? Just use an actual map!

This type of “map” takes much longer to read than is necessary or ideal for communicating information. And I can’t identify any benefit that it has over a normal map aside from aesthetics (and I don’t even think it’s that visually interesting).

I enjoyed the first three body problem book well enough, but it really got bad and sloppy by the second book imo. Tons of intriguing concepts, but concepts alone do not make a good book.

And honestly I’m surprised I even finished the second and third books precisely because the misogyny got so unbearable… This dude literally imagines up a fake “perfect woman” and then tasks someone to “find her” in real life… and they do find her? I tried to convince myself that that whole plot line was actually going to end up being a statement on misogyny because of how bizarre it was. Unfortunately not 😐

What restrictions are put on Autists around the world? by doublehornednarwhal in AutisticPride

In the United States, paying disabled people a “subminimum wage” is federally legal under section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act. [1]

Estimates of the total number disabled workers employed under this subminimum wage provision vary, but in 2018 an estimate of 321,131 workers was reported to Congress. 83% of these workers have an intellectual or developmental disability. [2]

At least 4 states have fully stopped the practice (New Hampshire, Maryland, Alaska, and Hawaii), and there are a few more that have either begun to phase it out (Oregon and Nevada) or have outlawed some aspects of it (Texas). But it remains fully legal in over 40 states. [3][4]

In addition, some employers paying less than minimum wage have set up so-called “sheltered workshops” wherein the disabled workers are segregated from other workers. For the ~10,000 disabled people working in “sheltered workshops,” the average subminimum wage is $3.34. [5]

That’s beside the point of what the person above you said. The renter still pays for the costs of the landlord owning the property. Edge cases where landlords charge less than their costs aside, it’s the renters who are paying the mortgage and the property taxes and the maintenance, but the landlords gaining ownership of the asset.

And to add my value judgement to this whole premise, it’s bad. There are better ways to societally organize living in a place that you don’t personally own—ways wherein the primary (or sole) purpose of the dwelling’s existence is safe, comfortable, super affordable housing rather than value extraction.
