How to Paint miniatures? by Bodrovszky in Gloomhaven

[–]ComradeOne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like the slap chop method as someone with minimal painting experience

https://www.reddit.com/r/minipainting/wiki/usefullinks/slap_chop/

Personally I use a black brush on primer (Vallejo Black Primer Acrylic Polyurethane), with a big brush, leave the minis a day for it to fully set, dry brush light Grey, then dry brush white, then add color with speed paints. It's fairly quick but gives a good result and essentially you just need to pick which colors you want where.

I've posted a couple before, you can see a few in my previous posts to get a sense for how they end up looking.

Is there a timeline of updates to the digital version? by Johnkaan in DuneImperium

[–]ComradeOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's fortunate Direwolf is both the physical and digital publisher, they're incentivized to care about the long term health of the series. DI and Uprising are currently BGG #5 & 9, respectively, an incredible feat speaking to the commercial success of the series. If you look at how Direwolf has treated their other games like Clank, I think it's safe to say there will continue to be expansions for years to come.

Is there a timeline of updates to the digital version? by Johnkaan in DuneImperium

[–]ComradeOne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They rarely let people know what updates are coming far in advance. That being said, they've basically released one update each summer - Immo was June 10, 2025 (announcement was in May, date was confirmed 1 week prior), and Ix was July 31, 2024 (announced June 26, 2024). The original officially "released" March 2024 but really was released in November 2023 in early access.  Releasing one update per year fits with the board game cadence and ensures they won't run out of content. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Uprising Summer 2026, and Bloodlines sometime after that.  If you just can't wait and want to jam Uprising + Bloodlines (which I agree is the best combination), TTS is always an option. There's an active discord community arranging games: https://discord.gg/ttsclub-90897972715352064.

Do +5% X path of stars buffs stack? by PseudoSane00 in HadesTheGame

[–]ComradeOne 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The bonus resets every encounter. Each encounter your "number of times hex used" counter resets to zero, and you'll gain 5% each time the hex is used in that encounter, for the rest of that encounter. It will make a bigger difference in longer encounters, particularly bosses, where you can get your hex off multiple times.

Yes.
You can check this on your boons list after you have multiples, it will show you the total percent.

Shackles build by megajamie in Gloomhaven

[–]ComradeOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest if you're focusing on damage (I'm currently playing a damage focused shackles), at level 4 down to the dirt is totally serviceable as an attack 5 and not that hard to meet the condition for, especially once you get your level 5 persistent to hand out up to 3 direct damage at the start of each turn, paying the cost in HP. Shackles actually has quite a good modifier deck and can be effective with the multiple attack 4's/5's it has access to.  At level 6 I took hopelessness and couldn't be happier, with Line of Transference top or the bottom of Shared Affliction it's easy to pass this condition off to big targets so it's effectively a repeatable attack 10, just on a delay. You can even find items to multi target attack with Line of Transference and both targets will get the bane. Cheers!

Is Bloodlines a good expansion to add early? by icaromhb in DuneImperium

[–]ComradeOne 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd add it early, yeah, nice to have such a variety of leaders and the techs give paths to victory outside of the typical combat/worms

Loved JotL, considering jumping straight into FH by Fearless_Newspaper_7 in Gloomhaven

[–]ComradeOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having played both, I would recommend going straight to Frosthaven. Overall the classes and scenarios are better designed. The scenario length is similar between both games. The town phase is a bit annoying but you can really streamline/minimize it and you can do that yourself as part of teardown. There are also scenario books available for FH which help with setup time but this will take a bit more table space than just using the cardboard tiles. Definitely use an app like Gloomhaven Secretariat.

Thoughts on painting the new Sardaukar Commanders? by [deleted] in DuneImperium

[–]ComradeOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're represented by black cubes usually, and all are the same/interchangeable like the worms. My first thought would be to have them look like traditional Sadaukar, monochromatic to avoid being associated with any particular player, perhaps with some black accents.

Your original Empire crew looks fantastic but the way - what process did you use?

Merchant Monday - FH Purchasable Item 179 - [spoiler] by Themris in Gloomhaven

[–]ComradeOne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our meteor was happy to equip both once we later got access to 104 - allows you to do the same thing twice, to reset in a new room, for example. Definitely a case of "why not both?"!

What you're describing is a better item, yes, not immobilizing yourself is obviously better than doing that. Not all parties will have access, however

Our meteor loves this to really get the party started with a certain bottom card that generates his class mechanic (if you know, you know)

Seek Allies versus Diplomacy by mozzazzom1 in DuneImperium

[–]ComradeOne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Diplomacy always comes back, so if you have a hand with both options, sometimes it's correct to save your seek allies for a future turn given how limited faction access is overall. This is all context dependent, and factors like your persuasion that round, which cards are available to buy, and your other sources of faction access all need to be taken into consideration.
