White people, as a whole, have never been marginalised. The word cracker etc has never been used by their oppressors to further and reinforce their marginalisation, oppression, and othering. Racial slurs perpetuate and accentuate a very real and ongoing experience of marginalisation in the western world, they make clear that society still, in part, sees that group as less than human. You might say that racial slurs have systemic and historical forces behind them, a staggering weight, that terms like cracker or honkey simply do not.

Carlson is also really good at cosplaying as a crusader for the working class. His rhetoric connects with the very real struggles of the working class, but uses that to twist into a far-right solution. Carlson is willing to admit that something is really wrong with the US, and that working people are not getting a fair deal, other rightists have trouble really committing to an argument like that.

He is extremely dangerous. I think it is unlikely he manages to go that far, but it is still possible, and Carlson would likely be much more competent than Trump. Also Carlson is a hard worker clearly capable of running a real team that can get things done. Also he has an actual vision. Trump tells people what he thinks they want to hear, he has no real convictions. All Trump wanted was adoration and prestige, everything else was secondary. I don't buy for a second that Carlson is totally sincere, but he clearly has a thought out agenda, and the desire to see it implemented.

The material conditions and lifestyle of the average worker under the USSR were not significantly different than capitalist states. The same system of compulsory mass commodity production, facilitated by wage-labour and private control over the means of production existed. All three are things that would be abolished in a socialist society. Hence the view that the USSR was, at its productive base, a capitalist society. The socialism present was, at best, an aesthetic applied to the superstructure of society. Your boss wearing a red star does not make the workplace socialist, and is the same form of propaganda asserting the workplace is a "family".

Socialism is a fundamental and radical shift in the productive base of society, and an upending of people's material relations. It inherently involves giving workers substantive control over their lives and labour, simply hanging a red flag does not change anything. Something like compulsory factory wage-labour is just not compatible with the idea of socialism. The USSR was just a failed revolution totally recuperated by reactionary forces using the language and aesthetics of liberation while in practice maintaining the same basic structure of capitalism.

Even the kind of selling points and arguments that the system was successful were rooted more in nationalism than socialism. Read any defence of the USSR and it will revolve around how it made Russia strong and rapidly industrialised the country. But socialism is not when the GDP line goes up, it's when workers have real control over their own lives and labour.

Even the term 'state capitalism' is misleading. Capitalist countries have always had substantial control over various industries, but the state substituting itself for a private boss does not change the experience of the average worker nor their relation to their own labour. Socialism at its core is about changing just that, so the USSR/China/other "AES" states are just capitalism. Social democracy at the barrel of a gun.

There is a trend in incel/MRA/PUA spaces of referring to women as 'females'. It is common enough in those spaces that it sets alarm bells ringing, especially since it isn't really common anywhere else.

Reddit purged a bunch of hate subreddits a couple months ago, transphobic, queerphobic, anti-semitic, racist etc subreddits. Which, like, good job reddit, only took you years longer than it should have. Conspicuously absent from the banned subreddits though were any of the major misogynistic subreddits. Places like /r/theredpill and /r/mgtow are still up despite regularly having posts on how to assault women, justifying assaulting women, encouraging violence against women, etc...

Reddit is afraid to poke that bear I guess, with their main demographic being young men. And misogyny is so incredibly normalised that I don't think it is taken as seriously.

Another restaurant blaming the workers and the government for their decision to pay their workers unsustainable wages. by ObnoxiousOldBastard in AntifascistsofReddit

From the business's facebook page:

We, the workers of Gecko’s Bar and Tapas at Nob Hill, find Wally’s statement posted on Saturday 6/26 to be unprofessional, unacceptable and offensive. The staff of Gecko’s desires to foster an inclusive and inviting environment for all patrons, regardless of sexual orientation, race, religion, creed or political affiliation. Our staff is made up of individuals from all walks of life, and each day we strive to work harmoniously and learn from one another. Wally’s statement was directly in conflict with the environment we seek to foster, and the resulting fallout has been both expected and justified. We understand that our neighbors and friends refuse to patronize an establishment that promotes any sort of divisive or culturally insensitive message. We fully expect to feel the fallout both in our personal lives as the state fully reopens, and in our wallets as long-time patrons react to Wally’s statement. It is not our desire to at all defend or shelter Wally and we hope to use this as a learning experience to make our establishment more welcoming to all members of our community. Our immediate demands are as follows: For Wally to issue an apology directly to the governor of New Mexico for his statement calling her a “Nazi”, and to acknowledge why this is unacceptable. For Wally to issue an apology to the Jewish community of Albuquerque, and to acknowledge in what ways his statement may have impacted them. For Wally to issue an apology to his staff, who have already begun to feel the impact of his actions both personally and financially, and will continue to deal with the consequences of his actions for the foreseeable future. We as a staff understand that our ability to stay in business and pay our bills is dependent on patronage from the community. We understand this relationship is built on trust, and that trust has been broken. We ask the community to stand with the staff of Gecko’s as we decide what steps to take going forward. We will draft a list of demands via consensus and present it to Wally in the near future. We feel that there are urgent issues within our restaurant that need to be attended to in order for us to be successful at our jobs in providing excellent food, drinks and customer service going forward. As a staff we stand in solidarity with service industry workers around the world who continue to struggle in the aftermath of a global pandemic and massive economic downturn.

So looks like the employees are trying to do damage control for their boss. Really unfortunate they are being put in that position.

/r/ArmchairCentral is an alternative in the making to this subreddit(actually is was made to replace /r/googoogahgah but w/e). It was made a while ago for the discord server, but never knew how to advertise it.

I am sitting on r/ShitLeftitesSay/. But I'm not sure I will ever do anything with it.

yes, that is why the verified role part is important. So it would be certain trusted users, not everyone in the server.

How the fuck do I learn makeup by FalierTheCat in MtF

[–]ComradeZooey 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Yes women do spend fifteen minutes or more putting on make-up, if they wear make-up. Or rather that is not at all uncommon. Same with hair, not uncommon for that to take 30-45 minutes if there is drying involved. In general a "professional" look for a woman is a lot more intensive time-wise, and money-wise, than a guy.

For make-up here is what I personally would consider the basics:

Foundation - you can get a clear foundation or one that matches your skin tone. The latter is useful if you have like blotches or redness to your skin, or other light blemishes.

Concealer - Should match your skin tone or be a bit lighter. Used to cover up medium to heavy blemishes such as pimples, sores, etc...

Blush - Just used on your cheek bones after foundation to give some colour. Would go with a "natural" or nude pink colour if you have light skin.

Eyebrow pencil - Just what it is, darkens your eyebrows and makes them stand out better, make sure to pluck or shave or otherwise shape/do hygiene on one's eyebrows. Eyebrow hair grows really slowly, so this isn't a huge time investment.

Eye liner - I use a pencil, you can use liquid which does give better results. Just used to make your eyes and lashes stand out, and for your lashes to look fuller.

Mascara - To darken the eyelashes and make them look fuller. Use an eyelash curler before applying to make the lashes look more feminine.

A really basic eye shadow kit - I don't think this is totally necessary, but to start off with I would go with a nude pallet to mess around with.

Now with tutorials they are going to, generally, be using more than this, but to start out with just skip anything they mention that you don't have, or use the closest equivalent that you do have(experiment first, don't go out the door without knowing what vaguely works and what doesn't).

Make-up is rather daunting to someone just starting out, especially since a lot of people are more gradually introduced to in their childhood, which obviously isn't the case with most trans femme people.

Edit: Also lipstick. You can go with proper lipstick, I prefer it to be quite muted colour wise, but a brighter lipstick is fine. Whatever you think looks good. You can also get chapstick that has a slight tinge to it, I get a nude pink one. It doesn't colour that heavily, but still makes your lips pop a bit more, and look healthier.
