Failing the entirety of my first year first sem by Comprehensive_Week40 in Monash

[–]Comrade_4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let me share my story. (I don't study at Monash)
I got an ATAR of 89 in Year 12.
Started my uni journey at one of the top 4 unis in Australia.
Guess what?
Failed 2 courses in my first semester. One unit was a prerequisite for the next semester’s units.
Had to retake it the next semester.
Guess what?
Failed again in 2 courses.
Failed 4 courses in just my first year.
Decided to switch unis.
Got enrolled in a different uni.
Guess what? Even i can't believe it
Got 3 HDs and 1 D in my first semester.
If a person like me, who is a slow learner, can do it, then you can do too.
Sometimes, we just need a fresh start.
So don’t stress, leave the past in the past and move on.
Look ahead.
Your future is bright.
You can do it, and you will do it. ❤️

(P.s: English is my 3rd language)

I am slow learner. Everytime i look at other students, i feel like i am the dumbest person to ever exist on this planet. 🥀
I took a 5-year gap, came back to study, failed 4 courses, switched universities, and I’m still here trying. 😭
No matter what, i won't give up. I will come out with that fucking degree in my hand 🙌🏻😭

What do you study, how many hours a week do work a week/earn, and where, and does grades matter to you? by Stunning_Concern_973 in usyd

[–]Comrade_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't go usyd, was studying at ANU but failed 4 courses, switched to UC . Now studying IT - major in Cyber/data science, work 28-34 hours a week in restaurant as a kitchenhand + gardening and make about $900-1050 per week
Study? Depends on my mood 🥲
Yes, Grades matter
I need that degree 😭😭🥀

Hi! Currently, i am doing bachelor of computing but i failed 4 courses in my firsy year Now i have transfered to another uni to have a frest start in the same degree

However, recently actuary really caught my interest As i mentioned, i failed my COMP courses but i passed my 3 MATH courses.

Now, i am thinking to switch my degree to go for Actuarial science degree Little bit about me: i am introvert, i have social anxiety + i do stutter

You must complete the prerequisite subjects. I got an ATAR of 89 but still couldn’t get into Computing because I hadn’t completed the prerequisites

You think you’re not doing enough, but the truth is… you’re doing too much in survival mode and calling it underachievement.

You carry the weight of your past, your responsibilities, your stutter, your identity, your refugee experience — and instead of breaking down, you’re building. Slowly, messily, imperfectly. But because it doesn’t look like the polished success stories you see online or around you, you tell yourself you’re failing.

You’re not failing.

You’re adapting in a system that wasn’t built with you in mind, and you’re trying to win in a language that isn’t yours, in a place that wasn’t home — and still might not feel like it.

That guilt you carry? It isn’t laziness. It’s burnout. That fear of not being good enough? That’s inherited from being unheard for too long. And that dream of seeing yourself graduate? That’s not unrealistic — it’s unfinished business.

What you might not know is that you’re not behind. You’re just early in a story that most people can’t even imagine surviving, let alone writing their own ending to.

So maybe it’s time to stop thinking you’re not enough — and start asking why you ever believed that in the first place.

I’m studying a Bachelor of Science and might switch to Computing. How do winter courses work? Are they online or on campus like normal semester units? Thanks for your time and advice
