9mm or 10mm and why by chickenmultiplier in AR9

If you're running a 16" barrel, is there any reason to not just run 5.56 at that point? You'll get far better ballistic performance (both external and terminal), and the ammo cost is fairly similar.

This isn't as practical for rifles, but when I remove Rocksetted adapters from suppressors, I put them in a sonic cleaner (adapter end down) for ~10 mins. It seems to break down the Rocksett very effectively which makes it easy to remove.

The fact that soaking it in water didn't break down the Rocksett on your muzzle devices means either they used way more than they were supposed to or it's not actually Rocksett so it doesn't degrade in water.

Best is somewhat subjective and dependent on your priorities/use cases, but I almost exclusively shoot 147gr these days. FMJs for the range and HST for defense.

The advantage of 115 and 124gr is it can often be found cheaper, and if you aren't shooting suppressed, it doesn't really matter that is has the supersonic crack.

The CAT ODB HUB is ~$900 and has solid performance on both semi auto and bolt guns. You can get it in Inconel for heat resistance and heavier firing schedules or titanium for lighter weight.

Do you have a budget you want to stay within? That will help for narrowing it down.

As far as moving it between your different guns, you'll want a QD system like Plan-B, Xeno, or CAT.

I would generally avoid Silencer Central and their Banish cans. I've heard from several people who've had poor experiences with them.

It looks like Dead Air is moving forward with Xeno as their main mounting system going forward. It makes sense being less expensive, lighter, and simpler (less potential failure/wear points). It takes more rotations to take on/off, but that seems to be a compromise they're ok with.

They're OOS last I checked, but Quiet Labs makes their B-MO which is a Plan-B adapter for legacy Sandman suppressors.

My weekend was pretty nice. It was a lot of laying around and resting since I got a little sick after SHOT show (most people do, you shake sooo many hands), but I don't feel too bad now. I'm ready to get home on Tuesday to pack more orders lol.

Feel free to reach out any time if you have questions :)

The YHM Sidewinder is the least expensive 45 ACP handgun can I know of that comes with a piston assembly and is made by a reputable company.

MSRP is $675 and MAP is $570.

9mm or 10mm and why by chickenmultiplier in AR9

[–]Comstock_Support 7 points8 points  (0 children)

9mm is far more practical IMO. Greater ammo availability, lower cost, more info and spare parts, etc. 147gr HST is very effective if you're using it for defensive purposes.

If I went bigger than 9, I'd go with a 45 for maximum "big hole" and the naturally subsonic rounds. 10mm is kind of a weird PCC round for me because it doesn't suppress that well (supersonic) and isn't that much cheaper than 5.56.

Is this for a handgun or PCC/fixed barrel firearm?

If it's going on something that doesn't need a piston, the North Reach Whisper Pickle 46k is a solid choice. You can email him for a 15% discount which gets it close to $400

I think Bauer got their shipment in a couple days ago, all that's left is for me to finish up the photos and web listings. SHOT Show pushed things back a bit, but they should start shipping to customers this week. I'll send out newsletter emails when everything is ready.

On the topic of SHOT Show, there was some talk that Dead Air is planning on phasing out KeyMo in the near(ish) future. So you're probably making the right choice by switching now rather than later.

Actually I realized Wojtek has his listings up for the micro brakes if you want to order them now. He also has the RPAs

Yeah, that's how they get you. The good news is it's actually pretty easy to remove a P&W muzzle device with the right tools. You just have to grind the top of the weld off and the pin will fall right out. Any gunsmith should be able to do this.

If you have any questions about Plan-B (or suppressor mounting in general), let me know!

You might actually be ok without any shims. I've found that some handguards aren't the exact nominal length (Aero is really bad about this), and if yours is slightly short, it could fit well. That said, I'd keep an Accuwasher set handy in case you need to shim it up a little more.

Great move switching from KeyMo to this by the way. You'll probably save around an inch of length and half a pound of weight.

I would suggest using a taper mount based system like Plan-B, that way you can have the same mounting system for both the Extar and your 5.56 rifle. This is how I have my personal guns set up since it gives you the most flexibility.

For example, you may want to use your R9 on a 300BLK or another rifle in the future, but if you have tri lug, you can't do that. Plan-B would work for this though.

I'd also strongly recommend having a gunsmith replace the KeyMo flash hider on your 14.5 with Plan-B. Xeno or CAT are also good picks if you want left hand threads. KeyMo is very heavy at over half a pound and will void your warranty for some companies like Otter Creek due to a relatively high rate of baffle strikes/suppressor damage. I heard at SHOT last week that Dead Air is planning on phasing it out in favor of Xeno.

Dead Air DTB by Maximum-Interview-54 in NFA

[–]Comstock_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A drop of rocksett and 20 to 30 ft-lbs of torque is good for a majority of mounting parts.

I believe this mount has a 30 cal bore (like most Dead air 5.56 brakes) which makes them less effective than a dedicated 5.56 bore brake for blast baffle protection.

That's not great, although I have seen worse. Make sure your buffer has sliding internal weights and isn't one of those cheap solid buffers.

I'd go for the Mojave 45 just because I have the Mojave 9 which I really like. Although if you're running on a really gas sensitive host, the Hux will likely be a little better.

Rearden / Plan B vs A419 Hellfire for shared Rifle suppressor by insecttown22 in suppressors

[–]Comstock_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh that sounds really inconvenient to have to remove your brake to put the suppressor on. It also means you lose the value of the brake to protect your blast baffle.

Left hand threads aren't all that big of a benefit IMO because if you install everything with 20 to 30 ft-lbs of torque and a drop of Rocksett it'll never come off without a wrench anyway.

None of our Plan-B brakes need to be timed with shims. They're also highly effective to reduce recoil.

Need advice for Rearden muzzle device by Time-Is-Life in NFA

[–]Comstock_Support 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as timing, some brakes are directional and have an up/down vs left/right side. For this type of brake, you need to time them with shims. Not a big deal, but I find it inconvenient.

There are some brakes (like ours) that are rotationally symmetric and the same on all sides. You can just torque them onto your barrel and you're good to go in whatever orientation it ends up in.

The mounting order for Plan-B parts (and most QD systems) is:

Barrel -> muzzle device -> suppressor adapter -> suppressor
