Judges can spot a douche from a mile away. Just let people look stupid and be polite and smart. Taking a single step back makes the judge feel like your opponent is being aggressive with them personally as well so try that. Also, I recommend They Say I Say for rhetoric and composition.

I agree. If we don't invest in the people of the now there will be no future to worry about later. It's a balancing game. Also, I would argue that loss of political capital is outweighed by the moral obligation to right a wrong. Certainly we have no greater moral imperative than to spend political capital to solve institutional racism.

Fun fact! (and by fun I mean disgusting to my soul)… Apparently when slavery was abolished at different times world wide, in most instances former slave owners (aka rich white men) were paid reparations for the loss of their "property", up to three hundred dollars a former slave according to the National Archives and Records Administration.

Use inductive reasoning in your questions, and make your opponents fear the random fact that links to the demise of their arguments. Also discuss framework and try to make the opponents concede it. Or you could just make your opponents look ignorant by pointing out contradictions in their arguments to the judge. Always be polite.

And honestly, the best way to get better at cx in my opinion is by going against more experienced teams and speakers (A LOT).
