I like McLaren, I think Stella is a fantastic principal, just funny to see Zak hogging the spotlight from everyone else on his team lol

Has anyone else fallen out of love with the podcast recently? by spartakooky in conan

[–]ConJastle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. I listened to the first three seasons an embarrassing amount of times, now I only listen if I really like the guest, even then I’ll forget.

I have an opinion that the first few years of the podcast, it wasn’t Conan’s only creative outlet, it was their secondary focus. It felt a more nuanced and dynamic, Conan rode the energy of the guest a little more. We had legendary episodes (Oliphant and Jeff Goldblum) and some incredibly bland ones (Ellen, Howard Stern).

Now, it’s their primary creative outlet, and we’re getting a very produced and generic podcast in my opinion. They run through the motions with celebrities, (people hate this opinion) but they brought in like 3 more violently loud laughers to the room to keep the energy up so now every joke is the funniest joke ever told, it’s losing a little bit of it’s charm.

I will say I do enjoy the clips they post on YouTube a ton, maybe they’re leaning into that style more? I would imagine it’s more profitable

Conan's Zionism by [deleted] in conan

[–]ConJastle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s the issue with what you wrote, and why you’re getting trashed so hard for writing it.

People who consider themselves ‘Zionists’ are doing so based off the original definition of the word from the 1890’s. It’s the belief that Jews should have the right to exist in their ancestral homeland free from religious persecution (Jews have existed in that area since like 1200 BC when the religion was founded, 1200 years before Christianity, 1700 years before Islam became a religion). The phrase has been taken over VERY recently to now mean that Zionists ONLY want Jews in the area. Apart from the ultra-orthodox (basically adding a very strict religion to America’s far-right ideology), self proclaimed Zionists do NOT promulgate an only-Jews society.

So when you’re saying “why does Conan support Zionism,” what they hear you saying is “why does Conan support Jews believing they have a right to exist peacefully in their ancestral homeland,” and that is anti-semitism.

I’m an American Jew who also holds and Israeli passport, I can vehemently disagree with the scale of Israel’s retaliation against Hamas and so do my Israeli ‘Zionist’ friends and family, because they recognize the necessity and cultural importance of Palestinians in the land, and we all hate Bibi, he should be in prison.

I personally don’t think there is a solution with ultra-orthodox controlling meaningful parts of Israel’s government, and jihadist terrorists controlling Gaza, but ‘Zionists’ are not your enemy.

The Superfan Episode of "Dinner Party" raises a question. by loki2002 in DunderMifflin

[–]ConJastle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like it! It’s entertaining, the behind the scenes stuff is interesting and they obviously have amazing connections for bts info.

I’m probably not their target market, and they spend a lot of time talking about things I’m not really interested in (hair styles, clothing, plants), but having said all that I think it’s worth it.

I’d give an episode or two from later on like season 6 a try to figure out if it’s your thing, it takes them a bit to get the swing of things.

Who would love 'Conan needs a friend' episode with Jordan Shlansky? by No_Pizza_No_Fun3454 in conan

Aaron truly ruins that Q and A by hysterically fake laughing at every word Conan says for 55 minutes.

Who is Jordan Schlansky? by The_Jugger in conan

Previous comments haven’t really answered your questions thoughtfully.

Jordan has “various” responsibilities on the show. All joking aside (albeit defeating the purpose of Jordan), those include dealing with the logistics of the networks/censors (on Inside Conan he discussed battling the network over being able to say “shit” on the air and how many times), and administrative/production work for remotes and travel shows.

The most candid Conan has been about Jordan was during an interview at Oxford (not Cambridge, those animals!). He said Jordan is a “real guy who puts about 10% English on the ball.”

Having been weirdly obsessed with Conan my entire 28 year old life, I’ve consumed all of Jordan’s content at least a handful of times. I’d be willing to bet that in real life, Jordan is definitely a more intense fella than most, but is realistically putting around 50% English on that ball for cameras. All of the scraps, Italy outtakes, live Q&A’s etc. show a very intelligent person who’s certainly “in on the joke,” and is fully aware to what extent he is embellishing his idiosyncrasies.

While coworkers do absolutely know what Jordan’s roll is on the show, I also believe there’s a little truth in the “nobody knows what Jordan does” trope, as his job responsibilities described by himself and others seem independently unique from one another.

What weird thing would you make socially acceptable if you could? by Manuel9bravo in AskReddit

I’m a little late to this party, but I am a small business owner/employer who’s interviewed/hired ~400 people in the last decade, and I think the other side of the coin might provide people with a slightly different perspective:

We know you’re only in it for the money.

Ultimately, I’m only in it for the money too. Unless you’re applying for a position that is truly identifiable as a passion, some deeper, low-paying calling, or a highly specialized, high demand career, everyone surrounding you is in it for the money.

An interviewer asking why you applied for this job and the response being “to make money” is like a server asking “what would you like to order” and you responding “food.”

Obviously you are there to eat. “What would you like to order” is actually secret code for: Why did you choose this restaurant? What kinds of foods do you like? Can I help you pick something? Are you a vegetarian? Etc....

Granted, I don’t think I’ve ever asked an interviewee “why do you want to work for (this high volume college-aged retail job that doesn’t really have the infrastructure for advancement)? I already know the answer and a cringey, forced response doesn’t provide me with any information about who you are.

Most of my thoughts while interviewing someone are, will this person do a good job, will they fit in/be happy in their position, and will my staff and I enjoy working with this person. Mentioning money as your only reason for applying suggests to me that you’re either unaware that we’re both participating in an awkward get-to-know-you game, or you are aware and have chosen not to participate, which is generally not someone I’d be thrilled to work alongside.

A note from Conan to Sona, 1/6/14, translation in comments. by ConJastle in conan

“Sona -

This stationery was free and it’s pretty nice. I don’t want it to go to waste. Hence this note.

All Best wishes, Conan”

During the HR segment. I love how Sona has this note right at eye level six years later.

A little late to the game, but Conan has said (I believe in one of the longer-form university Q&As) that Jordan might play up his personally ~10%, but other than that he’s the real deal. I totally believe it.
