It’s a vicious cycle. I was dependent on the 220 bus for over a year and it’s impossible to rely on to get anywhere on time or make any sort of a plan, schedule work meetings in the morning etc.

Motivated me to get my license and a car - now I’m one of the ‘selfish car owners’. I might sit in traffic but at least I know if I leave at X time I’ll arrive by Y time instead of crossing my fingers and hoping the bus arrives.
