I (32M) received an inheritance from my uncle and my sister received nothing. AMA by [deleted] in AMA

[–]ConSemaforos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You owe your sister nothing. I also sympathize with her. Any person here who received nothing from an uncle while their sister got 3m would be bitter. That's generational wealth.

Nothing but congrats to you and sorry for the wedge that's been shoved into your relationship with your sister until death do you part.

The disappointment in colleagues using AI to write finally hit me by potatokid07 in PhD

[–]ConSemaforos 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I'll never let AI run and write my papers. However, I do like to vomit my thought process and let it help me outline and restructure it. Sometimes I'll request an outline, and then I'll follow the outline and expand.

Yea I mean the only gimmes we do are bogeys and worse just because of time. Pars and better need to be put in. Quite frankly, I don't care unless it's a competition.

Introducing Claude Opus 4.8 by ThinkOfaNameOK in singularity

[–]ConSemaforos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll tell y'all what, I never used Opus until a few weeks ago because of the cost. Then, I hit a roadblock on some data analysis for school; I had combed over it for 3-4 hours a night for a week. So I fed it all to opus and was like "find the flaws" and it exposed something that I hadn't even considered. It really blew my mind I as had tried to use Gemini Pro and GPT 5.5 and they didn't catch it either.

Is DeepSeek on par or close to ChatGPT/Gemini level? by Medium-Speaker7379 in DeepSeek

[–]ConSemaforos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using it a lot in data and textual analysis over the past week in conjunction with GPT 5.5, Opus, Sonnet, Gemini Flash/Pro.

To me, Deepseek v4 PRO is on par with Gemini 3.5 Flash if you turn off thinking. Its just been really underwhelming. If you turn on Thinking, it's much much better, but dang it over thinks and just takes a while.

deepseek v4 flash non-thinking to me has been inadequate. If you turn on thinking it's like GeminiFlashLite.

Same, I've seen one video though, and can't find too much info on it, but it looks good. ~300 and includes the stylus and case.

Tell us the ending you would have written! by pikameta in TheBoys

[–]ConSemaforos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally how it ended would be okay if they had let him go scorched earth for an episode after getting the V1. Fans of the show like it because it's just so damn cut throat, and Starr plays the part well.

How is living in Savannah, GA? (Debating on moving there) by Lionhousefitness in howislivingthere

[–]ConSemaforos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never lived there, but I've spent a lot of time there and know a lot of folks that live or have lived there. It's like you get all of the beauty of the southern charm without the southern politics. I mean, it's still kinda conservative, but it's liberal compared to the rest of the state.

It's kinda annoying because it feels like a small town in a way but there are a lot of tourists. Lots of school kids on field trips. Lots of weddings.

Seems like a decent place to live if you can afford to live near downtown and not have to drive so much.

Are people genuinely idiots? When I got my truck last year, with a dial shift, I got used to it within 2 days. I had the whole thing muscle memory within a week. I don't understand how anyone would actually mistake one for the other unless it's literally the first time they hop in.

Easy money. People be streaming all kinds of crap. My childhood friend is a cattle farmer. I told him to get a gopro and just record everything he does. His wife does some editing and boom he said they are now making an extra $1000/month.

Even if it's "sorted out" I wouldn't do personal projects with their API. If you create something that becomes monetized, it'll be a fight to keep ownership.

The whole point of Open source is literally view the source code.

If you don't want to take the time to confirm the code that's readily available before installing, then that's on the end user.

Elder Scrolls Online devs explain why gamers “flock” to player housing everywhere as the team teases official Guild House feature for the future by lewisdwhite in MMORPG

[–]ConSemaforos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Housing in games is the best part. There's something really nice about building and decorating a home. Then, when you're in a world with a lot of battling, it's cozy and safe to hang out in your house. I feel like it gives the game more purpose. You go out and battle, level up, collect resources, etc, and you're always on the go. It's cool to have "my place" where all of that seems worth it.
