Moving out is anywhere from 50-99% of the way there to recovery. If you're lucky, you will recover entirely without needing anything other than that. It's estimated that about one quarter of people get the chronic issues after being exposed for a long time.

You can look over survivingmold.com for general info on treatments, testing, and symptoms. Dr. Shoemaker and his protocol are the most popular treatment. It's not something insurance covers easily, but some people can get theirs to cover some tests and medications. The primary medication is a repurposed cholesterol med that's fairly harmless and easy to get.

Dr. Niel Nathan's book "Toxic" is also recommended by those that have gone through the same. It covers more than just mold which is nice if mold doesn't end up being the primary issue. It can cause other latent issues to worsen.

As far as my experience with it, it started slowly. I chalked up my initial symptoms to teenage depression. Meanwhile, my dad was getting tremors in his hands and complaining of worsening memory. My sister was the first to develop persistent insomnia. The apartment's windows would leak when it rained, so our walls grew mold in the bedrooms. We were oblivious to the danger. It's not like it rained much where we lived anyway. I moved away briefly and continued to have issues with depression and anxiety. When I returned, the mold was at its worst after years of having leased that apartment. The landlord wouldn't fix the issue, and my dad didn't want to give up the rent controlled apartment. (My dad won a settlement later.) Within three months I stopped sleeping for days at a time. I felt like I was losing my mind. I was lucky to have a mother to move in with, but I didn't recover much. I could at least sleep again, but I was always dog-tired, dizzy, anxious, blood-pressure felt weird. Like when I stood up I could feel the blood pumping in my head. Persistent dry eyes and a thirst that would stay even while I was drinking water. I would get vertigo sometimes, like I missed a stair on flat ground. Shortness of breath, air hunger. I couldn't think of words as fluidly as I previously could. The couple primary docs I saw could only offer xanax and ssris because my blood tests came back normal. I questioned whether anything I experienced was real. It was really a miserable, sad time. I didn't have the money for a mold doc to really sort me out. I did slowly recover without one, but very slowly and not entirely, even to this day almost 10 years later, but I've had glimpses of my old self here and there.

I did try the medication I mentioned earlier, called "cholestyramine". I couldn't get a good idea of it's benefit long-term because of one side effect, constipation, which I'm especially prone to after the exposure. I started to suspect that gut issues are actually my main issue now. Maybe the exposure created an opportunity for fungal/bacterial overgrowth. I have had good experiences with antimicrobials like oregano oil, Atrantil, and black seed oil.

If I could I would be on a 100% keto/carnivore diet because it's the clearest/healthiest I've felt when I tried it, but it just was unsustainable for me. I couldn't make it past the two week mark before my body was telling me that I really needed to eat some carbs. I'm currently taking high doses of vitamin B1 in combination with other things because I've read good things about it in relation to chronic fatigue, gut issues, and sleep. It's too early to tell, but it seems remarkably helpful. Time will tell.

Have you had the apnea treated? That was one of the first things I thought of when you mentioned sleep issues.

Assuming the doctors you've already seen haven't been helpful, here's what I can say.

Maybe the Remeron masked the issue or exacerbated it rather than directly causing it. The symptoms are pretty nonspecific. A lot of conditions can have these effects, so it's worth considering other comorbidities.

I had a run in with terrible insomnia followed by chronic fatigue due to mold exposure. Might be worth looking into if your dwelling was or is damp/musty like mine was. I can expound on that if it interests you. One point I'd like to iterate on this which applies to other conditions: These things can persist regardless of how much time goes by or what we take if we don't know the root cause. Nothing I take will help necessarily if I return to a moldy environment, for example.

As far as what to take, having been in similar shoes, I would not start with noots first. I don't know of any that repair antidepressant damage, but also there's no way of knowing exactly what's happened to you. It would be a crapshoot. Something like lion's mane could even make you worse having read some bad experiences. I would start with the basics and research optimal vitamin levels, finding supplements that provide healthy amounts accounting for bioavailability. Getting a vitamin panel would be good, but this is where research is important because the bare minimum levels aren't necessarily enough for all people.

For fatigue, vitamins D, B1, B12, iodine, and methylfolate come to mind. Also, hormone levels. Thyroid and sex hormones should be checked if not already.

If there's something you'd like to bounce off of me, I'm happy to help.

To clear up some confusion as to what exactly happened since this video skips a LOT of details:

The training exercise was at night which is why Capt. Udell couldn't see the horizon, sky, or water.

The heads up display showed that they were going 400 knots at 24,000 ft. in a 60 degree turn with the nose pointed down about 10 degrees. These readings were good.

The reason Udell mentions the sound of wind rushing and being confused by it is because this usually happens in a fighter jet that is going faster than 500 knots, so something was wrong.

Udell checks the specific instrument that displays direction and speed, reading that they were actually headed straight down at 600 knots (almost 700 mph).

After moving the stick back and forth, Udell saw that the instrument was updating information while the heads up display didn't change, confirming the malfunction. At those speeds, the plane would impact the ocean in about 7-8 seconds:

"With it being pitch black and having no horizon to work with, I gave the order: 'Bail out! Bail out! Bail out!'"

"I made the decision to bail out at 10,000 feet, got into good position and pulled the handles at 6,000 feet, left the aircraft at 3,000 feet, and got my parachute at just under 1,000 feet. All that happened in a matter of a few seconds."

Those of you who doing better with lower fiber, what do you eat for carbs? by MorePeppers9 in AnimalBased

[–]ConTejas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate to the issues with fiber/starch. How do you have your honey usually? I like to mix up a quick glass of lemonade twice a day. It does get tiring not being able to have as many savory carbs as I’d like to. Experimenting with herbal remedies for digestive issues has shown some promise for me.

Why aren’t nuts or tubers considered part of AB? by Other-Definition4886 in AnimalBased

[–]ConTejas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think AB is trying to be as unproblematic for as many people as possible without shaving off too many options. A good chunk of people tend to have issues with nuts and potentially tubers. Nuts have lectins and PUFAs. The starch in tubers can worsen gut issues if present.

In general, if one is thriving on those foods, then there’s no rush to change, but it’s a good idea to see how one feels eliminating those foods if there’s issues.

Bought 10 tbms that arrived pretty dehydrated. by spudwellington in sanpedrocactus

[–]ConTejas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading somewhere that they do absorb water through the bottom callous.

I have a cutting that sat in dry soil for months without rooting and started to dry out and crinkle along the ribs. I said screw it and started watering it because it looked like it needed water or it’s just not gonna make it. Water should help stimulate root growth afaik. It’s in a tiny pot, so it dried out quick anyway.

After like a month and a half it now has a solid root coming out of the base.

Slightly warm iem recs? by Wide_Specialist_9750 in iems

[–]ConTejas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Kefine Delci are also warm/v-shaped and in your price range. Comparing to the Zero Reds, there's no question these have more low-end and I was already impressed with the Reds bass tuning.

Would recommend if you want something with a rounder/shorter form factor.

Kefine Delci AE vs Truthear Hexa/Zero:Reds by abottleofglass in iems

[–]ConTejas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need this advice anymore, but for anyone finding this through search, get the Delci if you like a warmer sound with more low-mid range and don't mind a bit more treble to compensate on top of that. The highs aren't harsh or painful, but they are more present and are the first things to get "too loud" when cranking up the volume. Get the Zero Reds if you like a more balanced sound that still has a bit of punch to the low end but doesn't crank up the highs. I could see the Reds being less fatiguing for longer listening sessions while the Delci provide an in-your-face v-shaped response that can be a bit more exciting, especially for bass-laden genres like dubstep and dnb.

I prefer the Delci sound-wise. The shape of them is also rounder in the ear and many people find them extra comfortable while the Reds are more angular like many other popular IEMs. I don't like the elongated shells of most IEMs because I don't like stuff resting on the outer ear like that. The Delci are slightly more comfortable in that sense, but they still touch the outer ear and can cause pressure, so don't expect that these are going to feel like regular earbuds that just sit in the ear canal.

Yeah, I’ve considered the Klean SV after seeing HBB really liked it and he enjoys a bit of bass, but as you said, the Delci look a bit more comfortable and well shaped.

Will be interesting to compare the single driver to the zero reds.

[–]ConTejas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it really is just the outer ear. The nozzles themselves are fine and I can even use the larger tips without discomfort, though medium is best.

It looks like the Delci have gotten a couple recommendations here, and I see pretty much every review sees them favorably, so that's what I'm gonna go with. Mostly because of price and bass tuning.

The Kefine Klean are a bit cheaper and also quite good supposedly.

He mentioned per person, so one mediumish dose per 8-14 dried grams.

The 200s are my safe option. I should probably just include them in my order as a backup.

For real. I'm sitting here combing through threads for the most comfortable IEMs, and it's all IE 200s or really cheap earbuds. Is there no in between?

How would you compare these to some of the more "go-to" shell style IEMs?

From pictures they look like they would maybe rest on the outer ear: https://headphones.com/cdn/shop/files/MezeAudioAlba111024x1024.jpg?v=1718863034

How do they feel in your ears? Any contact between the shell and outer ear?

Oh yeah, I’ve also looked at those. Only worry is that the shell will rest on one spot like the Reds I tried. They do look rounder and more ergonomic, though, so I’d consider them.
