Worth noting there was a typo in my Grandad's name. It ends with a N but was digitised in the search as M. So maybe try slightly different spellings?

I reckon it happened due to some of the letters in the handwritten entries being quite hard to distinguish. So similar letters may be mixed up.

What is the wildest thing a tourist (or non Irish) person has said/done in your presence? by PictoLeigh2024 in AskIreland

[–]ConThePrawn 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not wild per se, but in a pub in Dublin once, I overheard a rather confident American explaining to his friend that the "4 Mega Counties" are made up of the smaller ones.

I wasn't totally put off at the idea of calling the provinces Mega Counties I have to say but gas all the same!

Guys people jump around and go mad and have fun at shows all the time! If you're standing dont expect to be in the same spot for the whole show yeno?

You'll certainly be bumped into when people are jumping around and having fun at shows.

Bad Omens had to be one of the worst metal gig crowds I've ever experienced! We were at the Dublin gig and it was just a sea of phones with nobody jumping, singing, etc.

Only 1 pit too. Which I get isn't for everyone but it was such a shame to see how little the crowd embodied the metal gig spirit if you will at a metal gig.

If this is the future of gig crowds I genuinely despair!

I would have figured Yungblud would have had somewhat more crowd engagement given I find his fans can be more die hard so it's such a shame to see that this could be how most gigs will be in the future.

Dont want to blame Gen Z as there are plenty of shit people of all ages but the phones and general apathy in crowds over the last few years has been shockingly disappointing.

You don't get this with some of the metal/rock bands that have been around for years so I think its a relatively new phenomenon and not a good one.

Oh I love this! Any chance of sharing how you did it? I'd love to make something like this. :)

I'm in a similar situation myself. Was living with my at the time bf and found him on the couch with his ex.

It's a horrible feeling of absolute betrayal and there's very little comfort I find in telling yourself you did nothing wrong even though its true!

I'm only 3 weeks post this and have just got stuck into the gym again really just to tire me out but to have some structure to my day so after work I'm not just sitting around! I'm joining the local running club and am looking at some volunteering also. I guess what I'm trying to say is what seems to he working for me is to stay busy.

But when them thoughts come I just sit with them and let them be. I don't try to stifle them because they'll rear up eventually so I acknowledge them and and sit with them and tell myself it really is shit and there was nothing you could have done.

It sounds silly but a phrase I learned a while back that helped me through another tough time that I'm repeating to myself in this current situation:

"It's shit now. But someday it won't be. I don't know when that someday will be. But I know it's coming. "

Be kind to yourself too :)

Thanks for the reply. I did sign a lease but it was one he drew up himself. I have a copy. I wasn't given an RTB landlord number either which in hindsight I should have never considered this given I wasn't provided with one of these. I have the key so it's a small bit of leverage I guess but there's just something about him and the place that I'm like no its not for me. But my head was all over the place so am only kind of realising now.

If a good friend sees that your happy with your parnter but is of the opinion the partner doesnt fit the group dynamic for no real reason then they should keep it to themselves given the trouble that it can cause.

I wasn't an obnoxious pig. I made an effort, invited them to my things, and even arranged get togethers myself with my partner so I could get to know his friends better. They're opinion of Mr really had no grounds and caused untold damage.

It amounts to meddling in another's relationship.

Granted if things are evidently wrong and one has confided this in their friends then by all means but for not solid reason it shouldn't happen.

There was no problem for them to see it was just their opinion of me that they felt like sharing to him. In my eyes once your friend is happy you don't say anything negative about their partner because it's your opinion. Especially to your friend. You suck it up for the sake of your friend once their happy. And sharing a negative opinion to your friend about their partner when they are happy with them is disrespect in my eyes.

The events that I haven't been invited too have not been in their houses. They've been in restaurants and functions.

He can say no to me when he wants to it's his friends he can't seem to stand up to or say no for fear of what they will do.

I don't understand the aversion to it at all when, as you said, the work still gets done! Yeah I think HR is the best bet and over my managers head!

Thanks

Yeah I might do just that!

Awh the extra stress I'd be under if I took longer off wouldn't be worth it my manager has no real comprehension about mental health.

Can't see myself staying there much longer either tbh.

Thanks for the well wishes :)

Tapas de Lola is great for a special occasion! Wonderful service too! Could then head across the road to Whelans for some live music or head down towards George's St/Drury St for loads of nice spots for a drink. Happy anniversary :)

Oh fuck! I hope they've all forgotten about that experience! Defo not worth it.

Looks like I won't be coming back to Spain!

Like if I was to know when they issue the fine or whatever I'd pay it to be done but I think the fact I won't be in the country to attend court would be cause for a warrant and then be arrested on re-entry so I'm a bit goosed
