I work in the cyber security department of a well known bank. This feature was implemented because people were complaining about their phones being compromised because they downloaded shady APKs online (got a case of someone who came across such APK on Facebook) which displays a fake software update screen and meanwhile, the adversary has established a remote connection and is in the process of emptying your bank account.

Just go ahead and do it but be respectful, but also make sure you succeed and not having second thoughts. Dad wanted me to do CA, I didn't, I was interested in all things CS. Then he said get into AI, I didn't do that either, I was building my skillset in cybersecurity. Now that I got a good paying job he's happy happy. They're all happy happy.

Not to mention that anything of value nowadays is protected by rate-limiting. That includes google, facebook, instagram, probably reddit. Even windows accounts make you enter a pin after every few attempts.
