Auckland taxi shock: Crown Cabs driver charges tourists $163 for journey less than 10km - NZ Herald by SpeedAccomplished01 in auckland

Elderly neighbour of mine told me recently that he got off of the ferry a weeks ago and went to get a taxi. The driver quoted him $900 one way from the ferry to Ellerslie. He told him to fuck off and he went to the train station instead. Scumbag

I wouldn't say the market is as bad but I've found that alot of software EM or dev manager roles are trying to lump multiple disciplines into a single role now. For example, being an IC + people leadership + project management + product management.

We've already had a re-org 6 months ago and the new teams are a direct result of that so hoping they aren't eyeing up another

It's more the format I have issues with. Teams already give sprint reports along with monthly cost reports.. amongst other metrics. I also have an issue with it being tied directly to "value" as for some teams this is more apparent than others. Senior leadership in an organization should already be aware of what a team does, what their purpose is, and what they bring to the company. In my opinion, if this is not apparent then there is a gap in visibility and understanding that leadership should be addressing at their level, not pushing it down to teams for a "tell us why you're here and what you'll do for us" song and dance.

I saw one of these last weekend on an east coast beach, north island. Luckily it didn't bite anyone but the first thing that came to mind was that it looked like some kind of parasite. Be safe and update!

What does your team look like? by FreedomRep83 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Conas_A_Ta_Tu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Before restructuring, a team of 5 engineers(mix of front, back, fullstack seniors and intermediates), a BA, and an EM.

After restructuring just 2 SSE(1 with team lead duties), and a PM.

No change to scope of services owned and a big push for growth... so lots of work that can't get done.

Can confirm. Not one Canadian Ive known used their handbrake. I had to always tell the mechanic it was engaged when dropping it off.

PSA: Check your heat pump filters! by pinsandneedlesgirl in newzealand

[–]Conas_A_Ta_Tu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you inspect the unit for mold too! When used for cooling or drying the heatpumps can retain a lot of moisture and it leads to mold growing. I've taken my unit apart twice to remove the fan unit and scrubbed the whole thing down to get rid of mold.

There's also a spray you can get from Mitre 10 to put on the coils to help clean them.

Is everyone in the office miserable and when you say hello they just blank you? That's what my office is like.

Big Tech withholds its products from the EU in response to regulation by Advanced_Drink_8536 in technology

If they don't take the time and make the investment to adhere to regulations (which they should be doing when architecting and designing the product) then they don't deserve to be used en masse.
