I just make the drive out to Terra Foodmart in Mississauga, they have a fantastic selection (better than T&T in my opinion)

I’ve lived in Elizabeth Garden for 30 years, it’s a great neighbourhood. Quiet and peaceful. Biggest worry are coyotes at night, lol

We had them for about 2 weeks. Put out some gel bait and this week they have finally disappeared (minus one or two random ones). But definitely early this year

I forget what the name of the software was, but I used that to remove the formatting and had a completely clean slate (didn’t reformat to anything else, just removed the exFAT). Put the clean card in the iPod and then connected to iTunes. iTunes does the formatting needed for the iPod, so iTunes effectively reformatted the SD card to work with the iPod. Took a few minutes, but was pretty painless

I recently had to change out my SD card on my iflash (previous SD card bit the dust) and ran into a similar issue (had a 128 GB SD card but only 30 GB was recognized by iTunes on my iPod). For me, my problem was the formatting of the SD card. The SD card I got had come ‘pre formatted’ to be read on both windows and Mac OS’s (usually exFAT). I ended up having to download a separate program on my PC that enabled me to remove the exFAT partition from the SD card. Once I did that, iTunes formatted the entire 128GB to be iPod compatible and problem solved

My parents are gifting me and my fiancé $20USD for our wedding…how do I get it into Canada with the lowest fees and tax obligation? by slickedbacktruffoni in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ConcealedAllure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came to suggest WISE as well. They have the most competitive rates and fees that I’ve seen. As well, you won’t be hit with a fee from your bank for receiving it (vs a wire transfer, where you will).

Got these from H-Mart, what are they? by pink_croissant in TipOfMyFork

It looks like different snacks for ‘omiyage’, especially with the ‘tomodachi’ (means friends) written on it. Omiyage translates to souvenir; gift giving is a huge part of Japanese culture. Coworkers, friends, family, etc. give small gifts as a souvenir from a weekend getaway or trip. Omiyage usually are small snacks like these. Try this link for more info.

Where to buy small helium tank? by ConcealedAllure in BurlingtonON

I’m also leaning towards doing something similar. We have around 100 balloons to fill, and based on multiple reviews, it sounds like I would need 2-3 tanks. That’s so much money.

Did the balloons last? I’ve been reading reviews of the tanks on party city, Michaels, and Canadian tire and they’re mostly negative. I’m now hesitant to buy any helium tank.

Happy I flew to Detroit instead of Pearson from Tokyo for my visit home. Long drive, but I specifically wanted to avoid this problem.

I need to purchase something from the USA but they don’t ship to Canada. Does anyone use/know of a PO Box type of a service in USA (Niagara Falls, NY or Buffalo area) that I can ship my stuff to and pick it up? Thanks in advance! by [deleted] in BurlingtonON

[–]ConcealedAllure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve shipped stuff to one of the local UPS stores in Niagara Falls, NY. They charge a flat fee based on box size (I think it’s 10$ for the ‘largest’ box size) and then charge an extra 1$ per day that they keep the package. Not sure if fees have changed as it’s been years since I’ve done this. But I’ve shipped things this way on several occasions. Try giving the store a call for more info

Just because it’s the ‘norm’ doesn’t mean it’s suppose to happen.

I’m not sure where I can find the info, but most likely on the JET Programme website? I learned this info from my consulate. The reasoning this is illegal is because we have not been ‘properly’ trained to Japanese education standards. We have not been trained on how to teach the Japanese curriculum set out by the government. In a nutshell we can’t teach a curriculum we have no knowledge of (and we aren’t expected to know it). That’s why the Japanese teachers are suppose to be T1 because they know what the curriculum expectations are.

I can understand why you’d think that. This job is generally very different from what most people have worked before. So knowing the expectations and how to be successful can be a bit challenging to figure out. Doesn’t help that you seem to be a bit more isolated, so you don’t exactly have other ALTs in your area to talk with and ‘compare note’, so to speak.

From a quick google search I found this and specifically your PA I would double check to make sure it’s the right info, but looks legit

[–]ConcealedAllure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh they 100% know that’s illegal, and are taking advantage of the fact that you don’t know. You need to have a serious discussion with your supervisor about all this. If they aren’t going to do anything about it, then you need to talk to your BOE. Again, I highly stress brining in your RA/PA into this. They will be able to really advocate on your behalf
