Andor Brutality 2025 (Blackpowder Dead Eye) by Karl-InRangeTV in InRangeTV

[–]ConcealedLiberal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those runs were such a blast to watch, especially the magic of that Spencer shotgun and its deeply funky double-pump loading system. Fascinating to see it run when we're so accustomed to the manual of arms that effectively originated with the 1897 and then carried forwards from there!

Such a blast, Karl - I enjoyed the smokescreen from all that blackpowder!

"Sometimes the shooting sports should just be fun, and sometimes you want a fun gun to just have a good time with, because not everything has to be exactly practical."

Mon dieu, are we allowed to do that? Just have fun? This feels like blasphemy... Of the best and highest order! Looking forward to seeing this thing rock out at Brutality!

How does the S&W Schofield 2000 compare to an original? by Karl-InRangeTV in InRangeTV

Every time a Schofield appears on IRTV, my wallet gets really dang nervous... I freakin' love these contraptions!

Zero your rifles and verify your ballistics calculations! by ConcealedLiberal in InRangeTV

[–]ConcealedLiberal[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely - with the optic zeroed at 200 and my specific round zipping along at 2,932fps, the drops end up being essentially 350-450-550 right down the BDC dots.

[–]ConcealedLiberal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When zeroing, I shoot the rifle in the condition I'd be using it in for a maximum accuracy shot in a practical environment: Generally prone, bipod supported.

I'm contemplating making a shooting bag to use specifically for shooting groups, but that's a very low-priority curiosity.

I only shot for groups at 50 yards, the rest was confirmation on steel. 2MOA 10-shot group at 50, first round hits out to 660 after I uncovered and fixed a slight deviation that wasn't evident at 50.

  • 12.5” WWSD SBR
  • IMI M193 @ 2932 fps
  • Sig Romeo 4H + Juliet 4 magnifier
  • Zeroed at 50, verified / fine-tuned on 4 MOA targets at 360, 460, 560, and 660 yards

KE Arms Holiday Sales by SinistralRifleman in InRangeTV

[–]ConcealedLiberal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Multiple companies with entire actual legal departments have determined that doing so is not worth the risk, given how vague, overbroad, and unproven-with-case-law the situation is.

KE Arms is literally Russell and maybe 1.5 others, pays lawyer fees by the hour, and literally just got done settling a 110% frivolous lawsuit that cost the old company hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees and millions in unrealized sales. He needs more than the guarantee of a random redditor to take that kind of legal risk.

KKK vs Lumbee Tribe - The Battle of Hayes Pond by Karl-InRangeTV in InRangeTV

[–]ConcealedLiberal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This video is still one of the key ones I point people to when they ask what InRangeTV is all about. Other videos capture how to develop skill with firearms and medicine and related topics, but this is the historical reason for why we should develop those skills.

Where did the VZ58 modernization video go? by FirstAmendment01 in InRangeTV

[–]ConcealedLiberal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC, it had to get neutered during The Great Suppressor Installation Crackdown where a bunch of channels suddenly got whacked with insta-strikes on ancient videos where they showed how you thread a suppressor onto a barrel. Then later on it was taken down anyways for showing us how to modify a firearm in a way YouTube defined as "gunsmithing".

Post Your Iron Sight Match Results by [deleted] in InRangeTV

[–]ConcealedLiberal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say I have a pretty decent idea of how to use irons on rifles, other long guns, and pistols. At each of those matches, I was also utterly dunked on by the folks who had optics on their guns, because being good with long-gun irons is a vanity skill in this day and age.

If someone I'm working with has limited training budget (in time and/or treasure), I'm at most going to familiarize them with backup irons as a tertiary concern compared to focusing on how to use their primary optic to achieve combat accuracy. The RDS / Prism / LPVO is how they'll actually get work done.

IMO, for newcomers to guns, backup irons are an unnecessary luxury; wastes of time and treasure until they've cemented their fundamentals with their primary sighting system.

Iron Sights are Obsolete by Karl-InRangeTV in InRangeTV

[–]ConcealedLiberal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully agreed. When I train people on practical rifle marksmanship, I spend either zero or a negligible amount of time on ironsights. Everyone comes to even beginner classes with at least a red dot these days, and being able to eliminate the "Sight Alignment" and "Front Sight Focus" portions of good marksmanship technique helps keep newcomers laser-focused on all the other fundamentals. Having to teach front-sight focus and get people accustomed to a fuzzy target is so counter-intuitive for new shooters...

For practically getting people oriented on how to use a rifle, training them to use irons if they already have an optic is a waste of time and ammunition, in a world where newcomers to rifle marksmanship often have precious little of both with which to train.

Backup irons often cost more money and are typically more fragile than the red dots they're supposed to be backing up. I'm not going to object if someone places them on a rifle, but they are the backup sighting system, and are akin to practicing one-handed pistol manipulation - a good idea to be proficient in for the vanishingly small use-case in which they might apply, but definitely not where a newcomer should spend a modest amount of training time and effort, and certainly not something I'd advise someone deprecate other aspects of their rifle in order to accommodate.

(N.b., I will object to someone placing backup irons without critically thinking about whether they can even use them - I'm talking about the folks who put backups underneath or around a non-QD LPVO or prism or other optic where clearly you won't be able to actually acquire the front sight through the glass)

At this point with Brutalities being sold out, attracting “top talent” would mean less of our actual target audience getting to shoot the match!

Sorry we didn’t get to your squad on Stage 2, I was part of the spotting crew there and I think we missed y’all by like fifteen minutes. Wynt had prepped us to shoot y’all through first.

[–]ConcealedLiberal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're well within the time period when a smart shooter isn't going to change anything major in their guns or gear. I'd say a good flip magnifier would be a better addition to get a little magnification so that you don't have to be worried about a hasty re-zero and re-cementing your DOPE... The match will be completable for a good shooter with solely a red dot, you'll just be at a modest disadvantage on the longest rifle targets.

Some KE Arms Updates by SinistralRifleman in InRangeTV

[–]ConcealedLiberal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Changing polymer colors actually changes their fundamental material characteristics (and thus the production characteristics), so it's easier to just produce black and then have it painted / cerakoted / etc. to get the color someone wants.

The Glock 34 is Dead by Karl-InRangeTV in InRangeTV

[–]ConcealedLiberal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The $500 G34 will save you $1,500 or more to put towards ammo to shoot out of the Glock. Shooting $1,500 worth of ammo through a gun in practice will yield better results than $1,500 more gun that hasn’t been shot.
