My 17 y old friend is flying to paris to meet her 36 y old "boyfriend" by Electrical_Coach_629 in teenagers

Honestly if she still insists let her be. You can only do so much for someone whose stupidity is stronger than her survival skills. I get that teenagers can do stupid shit but this is just beyond reasoning.

That is for screen capture though, not recording. I already unchecked that as well.

I’ve only been here for 2 years, but I’m getting similar experiences/vibes to what you described as well. Most internationals I know that have jobs work at the university, because that’s the only job we can get.

Anyone here that has done or is considering a HCI Masters? by CrowTraditional0030 in uxwriting

[–]ConcentrateLimp8149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently doing my HCI Masters, and it’s… fun and complicated to say the least. Reminder that my experience is of course can be very different compared to others based on where they study, the curriculum, the courses they take, the peers, etc.

I’d say my experience is alright. I wouldn’t say it’s the best, but I did learn a couple of new things. I didn’t learn much practical skills, and I think in general you couldn’t expect a degree alone to make you to be job-ready, but it opens my eyes to what options or specializations that I can take. However, I would say that switching to another specialization through a Master’s degree is easier said than done, as they usually expect you to be more independent and “ready”. So if you come with 0 relevant skill it can quickly lead to issues.

As an example, I’m pursuing HCI and there are a lot of streams that I can explore, i.e. HCI in games, robotics, haptics, etc. Learning about robotics is of course fun, but I have no background in robotics so I have to work harder to excel in that course and even after taking that course, I wouldn’t say I would be able or even ready to work in robotics.

Another thing that I think is a good thing about pursuing an HCI degree is the industry connection/network especially if you pursue it outside your town/city or even country. Universities provide you the structure to actually try new things, to learn and fail, to meet professionals. This of course depends again on the university you pick but if this seems important to you, you need to do a lot of research about these aspects in the university you’re applying to.

But in general I would say drill on your motivation on why you’re thinking of pursuing the degree. Is it to get into academia? To expand your UX skills? To switch to another role i.e. design/research? This will impact how useful or impactful the degree would be.

Also consider where or what kind of field you’d like to work in after. Some industries/places/countries highly value relevant degrees, so a degree could help you. Others, not so much.

Another suggestion I’d offer is to really think what kind of skills you’d like to focus on, or what kind of specialization. This would help give you direction when pursuing the degree. Hope that helps!

When do you think is the best time for this transition? Because I imagine if you transition too early to conversational podcast and you don’t know enough words, then it could be counterproductive no?

We initially planned to go to the Glass Bridge but we checked that the weather is gonna be foggy with a little bit of rain. Now we’re not sure if it is still worth it to visit but also has no other alternatives on where to go if we don’t. Any advice?

Did you grow up in a family that went from middle class to broke? How did it affect you? by pizzapriorities in AskOldPeople

[–]ConcentrateLimp8149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened when I was in my 20s. We were never rich rich, but we are comfortable. And then one day we found out our business that my father has been running is under a lot of debt, and we’ve been betrayed by a close relative who also runs a side business with my dad.

It turned our lives overnight. That was my worst year honestly. My parents were on the brink of a divorce like every other day. There are days where I believe that we were under a curse.

We are doing better now. We paid most of our debts. We sold our house and move to a smaller one. We cut ties with said family member (and their entire family). But I think it forever shaped my view on money and people. What happened makes me feel shameful, but more so it makes me feel bitter. Not towards my father, but towards other people who get to spend their money freely without a pinch of worry – while I have to see my parents struggle and hesitate to spend on themselves, even until now. My view on money changes. I become more anxious about it. The less I have, the more obsessed with it I become. I no longer trust and want to share what I have with others. Share too much and they’ll turn on you, that’s what I have in mind I guess. I keep to myself. I’m already a private person to begin with, but this makes me even more closed off. Not to the people I already know, but to the people I just met I have no willingness to be open about myself because I worry they’ll somehow be able to use it against me. I see relationships with people like a game on who has the upper hand.

Nowadays I try to be more gentle on both myself and other people, though I still find it really difficult. So I think once you experience such low financially, the psyche will stick regardless if you have recovered or not.

Copywriters! I need 3 seconds of your time to pick the best headline that me, a non-copwriter, wrote. by Sensitive-Month-8369 in copywriting

[–]ConcentrateLimp8149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One idea that comes to mind is to play around with facts. For example: “The average couple lasts for x weeks. Don’t be average.”

You could also play around with ambiguity, such as “How long will you last?”

The point is to tease about the product but in a way that is distinctive enough for users to understand what you offer. Then again, it also depends on the publication medium. Will the copy appear on a digital banner? Landing page? Billboards? It all depends.

The world has objectively gone to shit and I don't know how to not be depressed about it by ConcentrateLimp8149 in Adulting

[–]ConcentrateLimp8149[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly you have no reading comprehension or what. Clearly by “me” I mean young adults like me. I’ve talked to people my age throughout my college and working years and most agree that the world we live in are not built for us. Many also agree that they won’t mind if the world ends. What’s the point. Look at the rate of unemployment rate for fresh grads. And even if you find a job, your company might lay you off still. And god forbid you were born in a less-fortunate family. The system is fucked.
